The Senior Civil Engineering Manager is responsible for the effective leadership of the Civil Engineering group across the company.  This role focuses on the continued development of technical excellence of the civil team, providing business development support to the various regions, and supporting the Civil Engineering group with their career pathing, training, and development of the engineers.   This position can be based in any of our regional offices across the company and requires occasional travel.  

 SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Champions the company’s core values of Culture, Ethics, Performance, Compliance, Schedule Driven, Alignment to Client, and Employee Utilization. 
  • Oversee and manages the Civil Engineering team 
  • Provides technical leadership guidance 
  • Recruits, interviews, hires, and trains staff in the Civil Engineering department.  
  • Helps develop and execute the strategy for the success and growth of the group. 

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES 

Technical 

  • Develop, implement and maintain a strategy for leading and growing the Civil Engineering team as they continue to evolve and expand their subject matter expertise. 
  • Lead Civil Engineering team, and coordinate with other disciplines including Process, Mechanical, and Electrical engineers. 
  • Act as a Subject Matter Expert and provide project support in that role 
  • Act as the Engineer of Record, as needed, to support various projects.  Requires PE license in multiple states as needed, for project work. 
  • Collaborates with senior leadership to develop and meet company goals while supplying expertise and guidance on operations, projects, and systems. 
  • Develop functional relationships with the organization’s regional leadership to ensure that the regions are receiving the necessary engineering support. 
  • The role is important to ensure engineers are qualified, experienced, trained, and prepared to adequately support engineering needs on projects, proposals, and execution in the field as well as ensuring CEPC has engineers with the right skills and experience supporting projects.   
  • Reviews projects as needed to ensure quality is being maintained. 
  • Interacts with appropriate CEPC personnel to ensure full knowledge of ongoing and upcoming projects. 
  • Maintains positive working relationship with assigned leads, project managers, vendors, contractors and clients. 
  • May be a Design Lead/PM on projects including kick-off meetings & developing project civil engineering scope. 
  • Specifications of major site improvements, development of civil bid packages, technical review, estimating and contract administration. 
  • Develops functional relationships with client personnel within their workstream and key region personnel. 

Training, Development and Career Pathing 

  • Help support the Civil Engineering team in the development of career pathing within their discipline. 
  • Coaching and mentoring of mid-level engineers, developing group identity and maintaining positive morale. 
  • Works with senior leadership to help develop and maintain the overall strategy for engineering training and development  
  • Works with senior leadership to help develop a Civil Engineering team growth plan to build a growth strategy, identify current gaps, and implement a plan for their resolution 
  • Works with Sr. Leadership on hiring and resourcing needs. 

Processes 

  • Identifies, recommends, and implements new processes, technologies, and systems to improve and streamline organizational processes and use of resources and materials. 
  • Ensures CEPC processes and standards are up to date and resources have a clear path to client, CEPC, and industry standards and codes. 
  • Assists in calculator/tool/template standardization company-wide. 

Business Development 

  • Reviews and approves proposals, cost estimates, and staffing requirements for projects. 
  • Supports Client interface, including initial meet and greet, onsite meetings, business development, selling of services, & project support. 
  • Developing new clients and maintaining relationships with existing clients to continue growing the group. 
  • Assigns appropriate technical resources to support the regions during the development of proposals 
  • Help build and grow business opportunities by supporting and maintaining existing client relationships as well as exploring new clients and workstreams 
  • Maintain a pulse on discipline-specific business cycles, trends, and technology and prioritize BD efforts toward high-potential and top opportunities. 
  • Performs other related duties as assigned. 
  • A certain level of billability is required. 

SKILLS/ABILITIES 

  • Demonstrates project management, business, and engineering management skills 
  • Results-oriented with ability to balance other business priorities 
  • Excellent English verbal and written communication skills.  
  • Strong technical, supervisory, motivational and leadership skills. 
  • Extensive knowledge of the principles, procedures, and best practices in the industry. 
  • Familiarity and experience with industry codes and standards including other related published documentation that exists related to code interpretation and application. 
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. 
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite and related software. 

 EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited curriculum 
  • Master’s Degree Preferred 
  • Minimum eight (8) years of industry-related experience   
  • Licensure as a Professional Engineer 
  • Preferred three (3) years leadership/management experience
