Job Summary:

The Materials Manager will oversee all aspects of material flow (procurement, receiving, warehousing, distribution, inventory control) in support of Mercury’s operations in Chantilly. The role ensures material availability, traceability, cost control, and regulatory compliance in a high-reliability defense / aerospace manufacturing environment.

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Oversee daily warehouse operations: shipping, receiving, put-away, picking, packing, and dock-to-stock.
  • Manage receipt, storage, and distribution of purchased parts, raw materials and finished goods.
  • Ensure ESD-safe handling of server/electronics components.
  • Maintain inventory accuracy through cycle counts, audits, root-cause analysis, and system transactions.
  • Own ERP/MRP material transactions, ensuring data integrity and compliance.
  • Execute materials issuance per work orders and BOMs and enforce routing and process flow.
  • Validate transactions, investigate discrepancies, reconcile inventory anomalies, and drive corrective action.
  • Build and stage BOM kits for production; align staging with production schedules.
  • Manage domestic and international shipments, complete export paperwork and compliance requirements.
  • Handle write-offs for damaged, obsolete, or excess inventory.
  • Lead and coach warehouse/materials staff, including scheduling, training, and performance management.
  • Drive continuous improvement in warehouse layout, flow, and processes to improve efficiency and reduce errors.
  • Partner cross-functionally with Planning, Production, Procurement, Quality, and Engineering to ensure materials availability and readiness.
  • Enforce safety, OSHA, and 5S practices; ensure compliance with quality standards (ISO/AS9100 as applicable).
  • Ensure compliance with company ESD policies, export / trade controls (ITAR / EAR), and government contract requirements.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (Supply Chain, Business, Engineering or related), or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • Typically requires a minimum of 6 years of materials, logistics, procurement, or inventory control experience, including a minimum of 2 years in a supervisory or management role or demonstrated leadership potential.
  • Strong ERP/MRP experience with transaction-level detail and reporting.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong knowledge of inventory control, shipping/receiving, and material flow in a manufacturing or assembly environment.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of lean, continuous improvement, and materials best practices.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certifications: APICS CPIM, CSCP, Six Sigma (Green/Black Belt).
  • Experience in electronics, aerospace, or defense manufacturing.
  • Experience with New Product Introduction (NPI) in regulated environments.
  • Familiarity with ESD control, cleanroom or handling sensitive electronic components.
