Mills Marine and Ship Repair, LLC (Mills Marine) is currently seeking an individual to support Touch Labor at Norfolk Naval Shipyard (NNSY)

Clearance Requirement:

Must be a US citizen with a DOD final Secret security clearance.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  1. Erect, modify, maintain, and disassemble all types of temporary platforms such as staging/scaffolding on dry docked or waterborne ships including staging around the sale, stern or within internal tanks and voids.
  2. Building keel blocking, cradles, shoring, cribbing, and other structures to support ships in dry docks and shipways.
  3. Inspect staging for any discrepancy which may compromise safety and take appropriate action to rectify identified discrepancies as required.
  4. Erect different types of containments and apply shrink wrap for weather protection coverage.
  5. Required to plan, layout work from blueprints, drawings, select materials, measure and cut to required lengths, use hand tools using measuring instruments e.g., rulers, carpenter’s squares and levels.

 

Education: 

 

The Supervisor position requires a minimum of a high school diploma and/or successful completion of a related trade or industrial school.

 

Experience: 

 

The Shipwright: Staging/Shrink-wrap Supervisor position requires 5 years of verifiable experience as a supervisor in the in the shipwright trade performing the shipwright skills identified under the Shipwright Trade Skills section, which shall include a minimum of two (2) years’ work experience on U.S. Navy ships/vessels.

Trade Training:

Completed a formal course of study in the assigned trade through either a community college, technical or trade school, military training, formal company training program or an apprentice program.

Required Trade Training

     Scaffolding inspection, assembly and removal techniques

     Building temporary work platforms and providing stable temporary decks

 

Trade Skills: 

  1. Have the knowledge and experience to Layout, manufacture and install temporary decking aboard ships.
  2. Have the ability to operate portable power equipment and basic hand tools in order to manufacture wood products including skids, ladders, etc.
  3. Shall be capable of installing Rubber, Air, Lead (RAL) tile, graphite tile, Special Hull Treatment (SHT), and graphite tile with fiberglass reinforced materials.
