We have an exciting opportunity to add an Analytical Chemist to our Quality Team at our Menomonee Falls, WI facility. This role provides technical support such as development/improvements of analytical methods, performance/maintenance of GC/HPLC instruments, process troubleshooting, non-conformance investigations, process optimization and training for production/quality departments.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists with transfers of custom/proprietary fermentation and product recovery processes for a variety of bio-products (e.g., flavor molecules, enzymes, proteins, cultures) working closely with customers and co-workers. Some processes may be synthetic-reaction or non-reaction based
- Transfer and test analytical methods (GC/HPLC) from customers for in-process and final product samples
- Prepare new (and updates existing) analytical method SOPs as needed
- Train production staff on analytical methods (e.g., sample preparations, GC/HPLC operation) and product processing procedures as needed
- Assist with transfers and/or scale-ups of fermentations and recovery processes (including analytical methods) from customers’ lab, pilot or production scale
- Spot-check GC/HPLC performance and assist with routine maintenance of these instruments
- Optimize existing processes via lab experiments, pilot and production trials to improve product yield, efficiencies, economics, safety, etc. on fermentations and post-fermentation product recovery processes
- Jointly troubleshoot some production problems with operators and other scientists/engineers
- Perform laboratory experiments to develop/validate new or improved processes and to troubleshoot existing processes
- Assist with analysis of test bulks of product distillation fractions to maximize yield of QC-approved blends
- Jointly prepare technical summary reports for internal use and for customers for first-time production-scale processes and pilot trials
- Apply new technologies to current and new processes or analytical methods
- Incorporate safety and environmental considerations and controls in all aspects of one’s duties
- Assist in internal audits of the quality system and in external audits as needed
- Maintain iLIMS (laboratory information management system) as site admin
- Aid in quality control release of inventory in SAP and it’s integration with iLIMS
- Other duties in support of company objectives

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- B.S. in Chemistry or Biochemistry
- 5 or more years of experience in a chemical or biochemical production environment
