The City of Edmonton's Parks and Roads Services is looking for a dedicated Maintenance Repair Person 1 to join our team in Branch Integrated Support Services. This position is integral to the long-term success of serving our community by maintaining essential facilities. You will be responsible for yard and building maintenance, performing routine repairs, and ensuring all work is completed safely and efficiently. A key component of this role involves operating a truck to transport equipment and materials to job sites, basic maintenance of small equipment, and managing store stock. You will apply your organization and prioritization skills to address constantly changing priorities and work orders. You will also play a role in mentoring less experienced labourers and providing excellent service to colleagues and community partners.
What will you do?
Respond to yard and building maintenance requests, completing the necessary work and repairs
Perform general maintenance, including cleaning, painting, and rough carpentry work on buildings, doors, tables, benches, desks, and signage
Maintain and service various types of fire extinguishers
Perform routine tasks such as replacing filters and repairing faucets or dishwashers
Operate a truck to transport equipment and materials to and from job sites
Prepare and organize all required supplies, materials, equipment, and safety gear to complete assignments
Receive, pick up, deliver, and issue store stock and other materials
Assist with snow removal and spread sand/ice melt around yards during winter months
Advise the Yard Leader of major problems or delays that could affect productivity goals
Adhere to standard operating procedures and participate in safety and environmental programs, including performing hazard assessments
Other duties as required
Completion of Grade 10
One (1) year of experience in Yard Operations
One (1) year of experience in Building Maintenance
Assets:
Apprentice Certificates in a relevant trade
Three (3) years of experience in Yard and Building Maintenance, including repair work
Experience with SAP and Google Suite
Experience in Stores Operations
Skills required for success:
Ability to Stay Organized and prioritize work assignments in an environment with constantly changing priorities and tight timelines
Strong Interpersonal Skills with the ability to provide excellent service and appropriate communication with employees, community partners, and engagement participants
Demonstrated ability to read and interpret plans, follow directions, and complete work order instructions
Practical Problem-Solving skills to quickly identify problems and determine the most safe, effective, and efficient way to do the job
Basic Computer skills for email and data entry
Demonstrated knowledge of purchasing, requisitioning procedures, and Inventory Control practices

Conditions of Employment:
Successful candidates will be fit for a respirator, and compliance with the City of Edmonton's Code of Practice for Respiratory Protective Equipment, including medical monitoring, is a requirement of this position
Compliance with the City of Edmonton’s safety standards for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), such as wearing steel-toe boots, gloves, goggles, sunscreen, and coveralls
Candidates are required to hold a valid Alberta Class 5 driver's licence (or provincial equivalent) or higher. Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's permit is a requirement of this position
Possession of current Standard First Aid, CPR-C, and AED certifications
