The Survey Party Chief position is responsible for the survey field crew working primarily outdoors. Independently performs surveying assignments, making exact measurements, and providing data relevant to the shape, contour, location, elevation and dimension of land or land features. Operates and maintains all instruments and measuring devices including levels, total station, GPS equipment and data collectors.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
- Perform topographic surveys & utility investigators.
- Draft and review legal descriptions. Supervise the preparation of parcel, record of survey, right-of-way maps, etc.

- Proficient in operating surveying equipment and data collectors/platforms.
- Identifies hazardous situations and applies company safety procedures.
- Professional communication with clients, contractors, teammates, etc.
- Transfers survey data to the proper files in the computer network and acquires data for field use.
- Relate boundary surveying by interpreting survey deeds and boundary maps, perform survey boundaries as needed.
- Motivate, train, & lead crew & staff members on proper field procedures.
- May assist in preparation of survey drawings using AutoCAD software.
- Interpretation of design plans to construction/staking/laying out.
- Ensures surveys are compliant with applicable laws, rules, and regulations.
- Establish and maintain positive and effective relationships and communication with client, construction manager, project team, consultants/architect/engineers, subcontractors, adjacent community, trade unions, governmental agencies.
- Ensure all on-site compliance with project procedures, safety program requirements, work rules and company policies.
- Enforce safety policies and procedures.
- Performs other duties of a similar or related nature as assigned.

Education and Experience:
- 4+ years of specific Land Survey experience required, with 2+ years as a Survey Party Chief desired.
- Clear understanding of proper field procedures for control surveys, monitoring observations, leveling, boundary survey, rail as-built, right-of-way retracement survey, topographic mapping and ALTA survey
- Familiarity with 3D Laser Scanning; LiDAR; GNSS/GPS (specifically Trimble); robotic total station; TBC/Trimble Access; Autodesk Civil3D; Google Earth Pro; Bluebeam Revu; MicroSurvey StarNet.
- Demonstrate a clear past proficiency in the collection of survey measurement data using GNSS, robotics, scanners, differential levels, measuring tapes and cameras.
- Competent computer skills to produce accurate and well-presented reports.
