About the Department

The Arizona Department of Public Safety is seeking a motivated professional to join our team. The Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) / Records Management Systems (RMS) Specialist works under general direction in a structured or unstructured environment. The CAD/RMS Specialist is responsible for modification and/or maintenance, troubleshooting, testing, and training of Computer-Aided Dispatch software / Records Management Systems (CAD/RMS) and works with other employees monitoring a help desk for system problems. Performs related duties as assigned.

The CAD/RMS Specialist works with the CAD/RMS Administrator to provide maintenance, troubleshooting, and training of the CAD/RMS software. Responsibilities include quality control, data entry, table maintenance, and other database-related requirements. Additionally, the CAD/RMS Specialist troubleshoots user problems and coordinates resolutions with the CAD/RMS Administrator.  As a support specialist, the CAD/RMS Specialist assists with training agency users on using the CAD/RMS application(s) and maintains a help desk for system problems. The CAD/RMS Specialist provides support functions such as researching information, compiling data, preparing reports, monitoring and tracking information in software systems, coordinating projects/programs, making recommendations for improvements, and resolving complaints and problems.

This classification is designated as uncovered. Incumbent serves at the pleasure of the Director of the Department of Public Safety.

Position Duties

  1. Monitor computer systems supporting the CAD/RMS application(s) and other applications as needed.
  2. Maintain system security and application tables.
  3. Respond to calls for assistance, providing emergency technical support.
  4. Remain current on job-specific procedures through training courses,professional associations, and trade publications to apply appropriatemethodologies.
  5. Assist with user training and implement an ongoing training plan to train new employees and refresh employees already trained. Distribute CAD/RMS user guides and data entry standards.
  6. Provide phone and in-person support to CAD/RMS users and assist with software issues reported to the unit helpdesk. 
  7. Perform data entry and maintain code and other tables to ensure data integrity.
  8. To communicate information, assist the unit supervisors with preparing written documents and reports (e.g., monthly and special reports, bulletins, analyses, etc.). 
  9. Attend meetings or conferences to obtain and/or disseminate informationregarding assigned work area issues andprograms.
  10. Prioritizes and tracks time-sensitive events and assignments to ensure timely completion.
  11. Researches, compiles, analyzes, and summarizes data to provide accurate information for audits, briefs, reports, contracts, correspondence, presentations, and/or meetings and to maintain program goals and/or strategic plans.
  12. As required, under direction, represents the Department on various committees and task forces and/or acts as liaison between the Department and other agencies or organizations.
  13. Resolves complaints and problems by interpreting departmental policies and regulations.

Minimum Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE OF:

  1. use of the Department’s CAD/RMS applications.
  2. installing, configuring, maintaining, and training for the CAD/RMS applications.
  3. administering and maintaining the CAD/RMS applications.
  4. the use of Windows-based computer systems.
  5. computer software programs, including the Microsoft Office-based suite.  

 

SKILL IN:

  1. the use of computer hardware and software.
  2. the use of standard word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software.
  3. written and verbal communication, including training and curricula presentation.

Other Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Must have three (3) years of increasingly complex and responsible experience involving the use of personal computers and database software OR any combination of increasingly complex and responsible experience involving the use of personal computers and database software and related education from an accredited college or university to total three (3) years and one (1) year experience using the Department’s CAD/RMS in an administrative role (lead or secondary).

Must possess and maintain a valid Arizona Driver License. Statewide travel will be required to perform certain work functions.

Must pass a background investigation. Progression to the next step requires an overall performance rating of at least "Standard" in the last 12 months.
