West Lincoln Memorial Hospital (WLMH) is a community hospital located in Grimsby, ON and a site of Hamilton Health Sciences. The Therapeutic Recreation Department at WLMH consists of one (1) full-time Therapeutic Recreationist who provides person-centred individual and group activities to inpatients on a slow-paced rehabilitative unit and a medically-acute unit.


• Plan, implement, and evaluate leisure education and therapeutic recreation programs for individuals and groups based on the patient needs identified from the assessment process on both acute and slow paced rehabilitative units
• Assessment, treatment, and leisure education of clients on acute and slow paced rehabilitative units
• Facilitate involvement from family with the therapeutic recreation treatment plan
• Function as a member of the interdisciplinary team
• Liase with health professionals and relevant community agencies and resources making referrals as appropriate
• Coordination and supervision of volunteers and students in the Recreational Therapy Department
• Complete administration tasks as assigned

Monday - Friday days; occasional evening and weekend work as determined by program schedule and events

1. A degree (preferred) or diploma in Recreation and Leisure Studies/Therapeutic Recreation from a recognized institution
2. Minimum two years recent experience in a clinical setting, preferably long term care
3. Eligible for membership in provincial, national and/or international Therapeutic Recreation Associations
4. Commitment to existing TRO Code of Ethics, Standards of Practice, and professional development
5. Current First Aid and CPR Certification
6. Knowledge of, and documented experience with, therapeutic recreation assessment techniques, establishing treatment plans, program development, implementation, and evaluation
7. Previous managerial/coordination experience preferred
8. Demonstrated willingness to work with patients who have physical, cognitive and/or behavioral  disabilities
9. Demonstrated excellence in communication, interpersonal and problem solving skills
10. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Meditech software
