About the Department
Forsyth County's Park and Recreation Department has an opening for Golf Technician I. This is a great opportunity to work outdoors with the Tanglewood Golf Maintenance Staff. This position will work in all areas of golf course maintenance on the three golf courses at Tanglewood. Typical duties include raking and edging bunkers, along with weed eating and general landscaping. As the employee gains experience, he/she will begin to mow tees, greens, and roughs. This person will be responsible for operating a variety of small equipment and tractors.
Work Schedule:
Monday through Friday, and every other weekend
May-September: 6:00 am - 2:30 pm
October-April: 6:30 am - 3:00 pm
Work hours are subject to change as needed.
Position Duties
Candidates who apply should have the following knowledge, skills and abilities:
Working knowledge of standard golf course maintenance practices.
Ability to operate and maintain a variety of reel-type mowers and other golf grounds maintenance equipment.
Ability to operate tractors, loaders, backhoes and other large equipment.
Ability to perform a variety of unskilled to semi-skilled golf course maintenance duties.
Knowledge of safe and efficient use of all types of golf course equipment.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from high school or GED and one year of experience in grounds maintenance work.
Pesticide license must be obtained within one year of employment.
A valid driver's license is required.
Must have demonstrated ability to safely operate small to medium motorized equipment.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered for minimum qualifications requirements.
Other Qualifications
Essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Irrigates turf and applies fertilizer.
Sets up golf course for daily play.
Rakes and maintains sand bunkers.
Operates chain saws, chippers, weed-eaters and other small equipment.
Operates powered equipment to mow greens, tees, fairways and roughs.
Installs drainage.
Plants and cares for ornamentals and flowers.
Performs general golf maintenance tasks as needed.
Maintaining a specific license such as a driver's license in good standing, without a lapse or loss of a privilege to drive in compliance with North Carolina law, and in compliance with applicable DOT standards for commercial motor vehicle drivers if required to perform the duties assigned to the position.
