Title: Title I Intervention Tutor - Middle School (multiple positions)
Reports To: Building Principal
Takes Direction From: Building Principal, Department Chair, Classroom Teachers, and Special Education Teachers
Schedule/Calendar: Hourly, a maximum of 29.5 hours/week for up to 180 days
Rate: $38.00/hr.
Summary: The Title I Intervention Tutor is responsible for assisting students with learning core content and skills, primarily in language arts and mathematics, for students who meet state and federal guidelines. The Title I Intervention Tutor develops and delivers lessons for and measures student progress. The Title I Tutor is also responsible for collaborating with teachers and administration on the progress or lack thereof, as it relates to student achievement.
Essential Functions:
Provides instructional support to students:
Provides instructional support to students in either their core instructional time or during their intervention time.
Provides students with supportive and supplemental instruction, including reviewing and reinforcing concepts from the ongoing classroom curriculum, as well as skills and concepts identified as the student's area of need.
Confers regularly with the educational team (classroom teacher, reading specialists, special education teachers, etc.) to share student progress and plan for future needs.
Maintains a log of daily instructional activities for each instructional group.
Develops and maintains an environment conducive to effective student learning:
Develops, communicates, and enforces expectations for student behavior and participation.
Communicates goals and academic expectations to students clearly.
Provides students with feedback on their performance so they can take an active role in their own success.
Employ effective instructional strategies:
Communicates learning targets.
Uses a balance of direct instruction, guided practice, and individual practice.
Provides documentation of student progress:
Monitors individual student progress under the direction of the educational team.
Provides timely and accurate feedback/documentation to students, as well as to the assigned teacher(s)/educational team.
Maintains accurate records of student progress.
Keep administration and teachers informed through written and oral communication.
Develops and maintains positive interpersonal relationships with all members of the school community.
Assists the educational team in the administration of any testing and preparation of the corresponding documentation for students in need.
Education and/or Certification Required:
- Bachelor’s Degree.
- PA Teacher Certification.
Knowledge of:
- Principles of child development.
- Instructional strategies to support students with academic needs, preferred.
Requisite Skills:
- Excellent math and reading skills.
- Effective communication skills - oral and written - in English with students, staff, and administration.
- Effective organizational skills.
- Patience and flexibility.
- Computer skills - Google Suite (Google Docs, Gmail, etc.)
Ability to:
- Plan and multitask
- Follow directions.
- Teach students in the middle school level (grades 7-9).
- Support a culture of equity, diversity, and inclusion.
