Position Title: Chief Development Officer

Status: Full-Time

Reports to: CEO

Supervises: Donor Experience Coordinator; Events Manager; Director of Philanthropy, Northeast; Development Director, Southeast; Communications and Storytelling Manager; Grants Manager


Location: This is a remote position; however, residency in either the Northeast (Boston, New York, or Connecticut area) or South Florida (Miami, Orlando, or Naples area) is required. The role requires regular travel within the region and periodic travel to Haiti and other offices as needed.

Position Description: Reporting directly to the CEO, the Chief Development Officer (CDO) is a key member of the senior leadership team and will lead Hope for Haiti’s fundraising, relationship building  and donor engagement strategy. The CDO is responsible for cultivating and stewarding major donors, overseeing development operations, engaging the Board of Directors in fundraising, and ensuring a best-in-class donor journey.


The CDO will directly manage the Development Team and serve as the primary liaison to the Development Committee of the Board. The role also includes oversight of donor-facing communications, marketing, and events, in collaboration with communications staff.

The leadership of the CDO will be instrumental in cultivating a culture of philanthropic excellence, driving impact, and fostering enduring connections between Hope for Haiti donors and our mission.


Position Duties and Responsibilities: 

Donor Engagement & Major Gifts (40%):

  1. Developing and Implementing Hope for Haiti Donor Journey: Developing and implementing a standard donor journey that is integrated into all aspects of Hope for Haiti.
  2. Primary Contact for Donor Inquiries: Serving as the main point of contact for all donor inquiries.
  3. Expanding and Enriching Donor Relationships: Utilizing direct communication and in-person meetings to enhance existing donor relationships, including with gift-in-kind donors.
  4. Donor Recognition/Expansion Events: Support with organizing events to recognize donors and facilitate expansion of the donor base.
  5. Meeting with Potential, New, and Existing Donors: Engaging with potential, new, and existing donors enhances donor education, giving, advocacy, and commitment. 
  6. Reporting to Development Committee: Serve as main Liaison to Hope for Haiti’s Development Committee on relevant development matters.
  7. Multi-Channel Donor Experience Strategy: Collaborating with leadership to create and execute a multi-channel donor experience strategy.
  8. Staying Current on Macroeconomic Issues: Keeping abreast of macroeconomic issues affecting donor engagement.


Development Team Leadership & Grants (40%):

  1. Provide strategic leadership and day-to-day management of the Development Team.
  2. Oversee grant development, solicitation, and reporting; ensure 100% compliance with requirements.
  3. Establish annual revenue goals, monitor progress, and provide regular updates to the CEO and Board.
  4. Ensure full utilization of Salesforce as the central platform for donor management and data analysis.


Donor Communications, Marketing & PR Oversight (20%)

  1. Oversee the development of donor-focused marketing materials, campaigns, and updates.
  2. Provide leadership on the Annual Report, ensuring timely and high-quality delivery.
  3. Partner with communications staff to ensure consistent messaging across website, social media, and PR efforts.
  4. Review data and analytics to evaluate the effectiveness of campaigns and recommend improvements.


Education, Skills & Experience:

  1. Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s preferred (Public Policy, International Development, Business, Communications, or related field).
  2. 8–10 years of progressive experience in nonprofit development, preferably with an international focus.
  3. Proven track record of securing six- and seven-figure gifts from individuals, foundations, and corporations.
  4. Demonstrated success engaging and mobilizing Board members in fundraising efforts.
  5. Strong leadership experience managing diverse teams and fundraising portfolios.
  6. Experience with grants management, compliance, and reporting.
  7. Proficiency with Salesforce and donor management systems.
  8. Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills.
  9. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, with excellent organizational and strategic planning skills.
  10. Willingness to travel domestically and internationally to Haiti as needed.


Compensation:

Salary range: $120,000–$135,000 DOE
