Job Purpose Statement

 

The Assistant Baseball Coach will assist head coach in leading the high school Baseball program.  Lead in establishing an environment in which student-athletes can gain self-esteem and develop a positive self-image. Committed to good sportsmanship, program equity and inclusion, a winning attitude and a commitment to student academic success.

 

Essential Job Functions:                                 

  • Follows and maintains District policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrates loyalty to the Head Baseball Coach and the HRVHS athletics programs.
  • Embrace and support equity and equal access to athletics for all interested students.
  • Serves as a role model and encourages good sportsmanshipboth on and off the field.
  • Assists instruction and demonstrates skill sets and techniques necessary for individual and team achievement in basketball.
  • Assists in planning and setting-up activities, practices and games.
  • Respects time allotted to baseball practices as determined by the Head Coach.
  • Travels with student athletes on the team bus, both to and from games.
  • Adheres to all financial policies of the District in regard to the collection and disbursement of money, expenses, and receipts.
  • Maintains necessary records and completes required paperwork in a specified time and manner.
  • Enforces discipline policies and emphasizes sportsmanship and healthy lifestyles.
  • Supervises students in locker rooms at home and away games and ensures appropriate behavior.
  • Checks and secures all office, storage room, outside doors, locker rooms and all lights after last player leaves after games and practices.
  • Ensures that appropriate rules and regulations regarding the conduct and eligibility of athletic activities and athletes are explained and followed.
  • Maintains a safe, welcoming, inclusive environment and facilities for student athletes at all times.
  • Ensures that medical and safety requirements are followed.
  • Interacts thoughtfully and courteously with students, staff, parents, fellow coaches, and officials and resolves conflict in a professional manner.
  • Appropriately maintains and secures confidential student records and inquiries.
  • Professionally represents the school and the District in interactions with student, parents, community, staff and the media.
  • Completes and maintains appropriate certifications and training hours as required, including OSAA Coaches Certification Course, and district required mandatory trainings.
  • Maintains regular and predictable attendance and is punctual. 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Previous coaching experience.
  • Subject knowledge of Baseball.
  • Ability to collaborate with youth programs, students, parents, the community, staff, and other HRVHS coaches.
  • Ability to coach in collaboration with the Head Baseball Coach.
  • Willingness to coach after school, travel, and supervise students.
  • Possess strong interpersonal skills, focuses on solving conflict, maintaining confidentiality, listening to others, keeping emotions under control, remaining open to other ideas and contributing to building a positive team spirit.   
  • Ability to be a positive role model, both in practices and during competitions. 
  • Meet attendance requirements for the position.
  • Possess current First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Possess OSAA/State Department of Education Coaching certification (NFHS or ASEP), Steroid and Concussion Training Certification.
  • Successful fundraising experience. 
  • Experience in school recruitment of athletes and team building.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous Baseball coaching experience.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish helpful.

Required Testing: Any offer of employment made by Hood River County School District to an external candidate is contingent upon satisfactory results of:

  • Drug screening tests for any illegal drug or substance classified in Schedules I through V under the Federal Controlled Substances Act, 21 U.S.C. 811 to 812. This includes, but is not limited to, marijuana, mind-altering substances or narcotic drugs such as hallucinogens, amphetamines, barbiturates, or any other illegal drug or controlled substance, except those federally recognized as legally prescribed by a physician and used as directed.
  • Post-offer physical abilities assessment.

  • Fingerprint-based nation-wide background clearance.

Compenstation will be through an Extra Duty Coaching Contract. The range is listed below.  Step placement is made by the HR Department, based on verified prior paid coaching experience in the same sport, at the same responsiblity level.
