     The Accounting Manager will be an integral member of the JFCS finance team, leading financial analysis and financial components of grant applications and grant reporting. The Accounting Manager will work with department directors and their staff to support program operations and revenue growth. The Accounting Manager will be a partner with the grants manager on grant applications and grant reporting. The Accounting Manager will ensure accounting procedures are in accordance with GAAP and will support the external audit process.    

Job Responsibilities:

Support the development of a balanced agency budget and perform financial analysis

  • Support the Associate Executive Director in developing a realistic and balanced agency budget
  • Enter the final approved budget into the accounting system
  • Perform financial analysis monthly and meet with the Associate Executive Director and department directors to review actual results, update budget projections, and assess staff productivity, as appropriate
  • Prepare financial analysis documents for the agency quarterly and for individual departments as needed for the JFCS Finance Committee 

Ensure proper accounting procedures in accordance with GAAP 
 

  • Support the Director of Financial Operations and the Associate Executive Director to ensure 
    • accurate and timely recording of journal entries in the accounting system
    • accurate cut-off at each quarter-end and at year-end to achieve matching of revenues and expenditures
    • accurate recording of allocations, intercompany transactions with other Federation entities, and revolving fund and endowment fund entries, where applicable
    • thorough documentation of all journal entries is maintained for audit purposes
    • Prepare monthly P&L financial commentary to submit to the JFED Finance Committee
    • Prepare balance sheet account reconciliations quarterly 
    • Prepare exhibits for the external auditors annually or as needed

Prepare grant budgets and complete grant reporting requirements

  • Review all financial portions of new and recurring grant requests and prepare agency, department and/or program budgets, as required.  This includes preparing the budget package for the Saltzman Foundation grants.
  • Closely track due dates for periodic financial reports due in accordance with grant requirements to ensure all financial reports are completed and submitted on time with all required supporting documentation.
  • Ensure appropriate back-up documentation is maintained for all grants, in accordance with grant requirements.

Support the agency’s cash collections process

 

  • Complete monthly accounts receivable aging reviews for client and third-party fees
  • Complete monthly reconciliations between the accounting system and the donor database for sponsorship and grant revenues and receivables
  • Support the agency’s effort to ensure timely collection of revenues from all parties, including follow-up with / invoicing of agency sponsors and clients where necessary
  • Other duties as assigned

All employees who use their personal car for work, must submit a copy of their insurance card, driver’s license, and registration.

Required Licenses/ Certificates/Registrations:

  • ·        CPA preferred

Required Education & Experience:

Minimum education required; cite years & type of experience.

  • Bachelor’s degree with a major in Accounting or Finance required
  • Five to ten years of accounting and finance experience, ideally beginning with accounting and audit experience, followed by experience gathering, analyzing, presenting and reporting financial information
  • Not-for-profit accounting and reporting experience preferred

  • Solid technical accounting and financial reporting experience
  • Advanced computer skills:  Microsoft Office Suite – including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook (including pivot tables in Excel and graphing in PowerPoint)
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, organizational, time management and written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work well independently as well as in cross-functional teams
  • Ability to maintain client confidentiality and comply with HIPAA requirements
