SUMMARY
The Distribution Center (DC) Manager leads an hourly team and influences the entire distribution center’s productivity and inventory, while ensuring that all the required work is run as efficiently and safely as possible. This role is responsible for ensuring prompt, efficient, and accurate handling of merchandise as well as developing and implementing team goals. This role is responsible for the hiring, evaluation, development, and discipline of hourly associates. The Distribution Manager will manage all functions of the distribution center, such as Receiving, Put Away, Picking, and Shipping.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Orchestrate the daily operations and workflow of a high-volume fulfillment center, overseeing piece-based processing and pick-and-pack processes for retail and e-Commerce operations.
- Daily unloading and receipt processing, to maximize the distribution center's productivity and, in turn, the stores' sales.
- Ensure the timely and complete submission of all necessary paperwork, logs, and reports.
- Enforce all company safety protocols and conduct regular inspections of the team’s work area to identify and mitigate hazards.
- Lead and motivate the hourly team by providing regular coaching and setting clear performance expectations to achieve maximum productivity.
- Generate and analyze management reports for intra-department use.
- Loss Prevention – minimize inventory loss (internal, external, and paper).
- Identify and solve problems and make informed decisions that affect the service and productivity of the receiving area.
- Ensure the accurate processing of all freight bills, noting shortages, overages, and damaged goods.
- Manage the logistics of both incoming and outgoing goods, and handle shipping and receiving documents.
- Logistical problem solving: troubleshoot and resolve logistical challenges, such as damaged shipments or delays, to keep operations running smoothly.
REQUIREMENTS
- Must be able to lift and move 50 pounds.
- Minimum of 3 years in an extremely fast-paced warehouse and distribution center processing environment, while managing multiple departments with multiple direct reports.
- A proven track record of identifying, analyzing, and resolving complex issues to remove obstacles and drive progress.
- Forward-Thinking ability to proactively monitor trends and anticipate future challenges and opportunities to ensure sustained growth.
- Possess a high-level understanding of Warehouse Management System (WMS), Electronic Data Interchange (EDI), and an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system, including experience in process development, usage, inventory control, and troubleshooting.
- Proficient in MS Office Suite, freight and parcel company programs, and handheld data collection equipment.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills for establishing and maintaining strong working relationships with vendors, buyers, store operations, and senior management.
- Capable of coaching a team to success, as well as holding them accountable for results.
- Forklift Certification is a plus.
