Position Summary:

The Technical Planning Specialist is a key player for our  Manufacturing team with a specific focus on Make/Buy decision-making and sourcing strategy for fabrication and machining operations. This role is critical in ensuring the company makes strategic, data-driven decisions on whether to produce components in-house or outsource them to external suppliers. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of metal fabrication, CNC machining, and precision manufacturing processes, along with experience in cost analysis, capacity planning, and supplier evaluation.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead and execute Make vs. Buy analyses for fabricated and machined components, considering cost, capacity, lead time, quality, risk, and strategic alignment.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Manufacturing, Procurement, and Finance to gather data and develop comprehensive sourcing recommendations.
  • Develop and maintain a decision framework and toolset for Make/Buy evaluations, ensuring consistency and transparency.
  • Analyze internal fabrication and machining capabilities vs. external supplier capabilities to identify sourcing opportunities or internal investment needs.
  • Conduct should-cost analysis for fabricated and machined parts to support negotiation and sourcing decisions.
  • Provide technical expertise in fabrication processes such as welding, cutting, forming, and machining (CNC turning, milling, etc.).
  • Identify and assess potential suppliers for fabrication and machining; participate in supplier audits and capability assessments.
  • Partner with Strategic Sourcing to implement sourcing decisions, track performance, and adjust plans as needed.
  • Support capacity planning and production readiness assessments for both internal manufacturing and external suppliers.
  • Assist with capital investment justifications for internal capability enhancements when Make is recommended.
  • Drive continuous improvement in the Make/Buy and sourcing recommendation processes.

 

Education & Skills Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Technology, Supply Chain, or related field, additional relevant experience will be considered in lieu of degree.
  • 5+ years of experience in manufacturing planning, process engineering, or sourcing for fabrication and machining operations.
  • Strong knowledge of metal fabrication techniques, CNC machining, and manufacturing cost drivers.
  • Proven experience with Make/Buy analysis and supplier evaluation.
  • Proficiency in interpreting engineering drawings, GD&T, and manufacturing specifications.
  • Solid understanding of ERP/MRP systems and data analysis tools (e.g., Excel, Power BI, SAP, Oracle).
  • Strong analytical, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • PMP, CAPM, or equivalent project management certification
  • Experience supporting make/buy analysis or capacity planning reviews

Work Environment: This position operates in a plant and manufacturing environment.

Work type & Expected hours of work:  Regularly works on-site at local Paslin locations. The work schedule is flexible around the core business hours of 8am-430pm, Monday - Friday. This position is for regular, full-time work and may require coming in early, working late, or working on weekends to meet the needs of the business.

Physical Demands: The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, bend, and twist. May be required to lift/push/pull up to 25lbs.

Travel: This position may require occasional local travel between Paslin sites and vendors
