Harvey Hottel is Hiring a Fleet Mechanic!
Location: Gaithersburg, MD (On-Site)
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 6:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m. (No weekends or on-call)
Employment Type: Full-Time, Hourly
Position Summary
The Fleet Mechanic reports directly to the Director of Safety and is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining all company-owned vehicles and equipment—including trucks, vans, trailers, Bobcats, and other heavy equipment. You’ll ensure that our fleet of 70–100 assets remains safe, reliable, and compliant with OSHA, DOT, and all regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine maintenance (oil changes, brake inspections, tire rotations, fluid checks).
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and drivetrain issues.
- Service Bobcat skid steers, loaders, trailers, and heavy equipment.
- Conduct pre- and post-trip inspections; perform emissions testing.
- Maintain service records in Fleetmatics and track preventative maintenance schedules.
- Manage inventory and order parts while collaborating with vendors.
- Respond to breakdowns, roadside repairs, and coordinate towing if needed.
- Partner with drivers and operations teams to resolve issues and provide training.
Requirements
Must Have:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 5+ years of experience as a fleet, diesel, or heavy equipment mechanic.
- Certification in automotive, diesel, or heavy equipment mechanics (ASE preferred).
- Complete set of mechanic tools.
- Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
- Valid driver’s license & clean driving record.
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs. and work in various weather conditions.
- Knowledge of OSHA, DOT, and safety compliance standards.
- Must pass a background check and drug screening.
Nice to Have (Preferred):
- Welding and fabrication experience.
- ASE Certification.
