SUMMARY OF DUTIES:  The Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist supports the company’s health, safety, and environmental programs to ensure compliance with OSHA, DOT, and other applicable regulations. This role focuses on day-to-day safety activities including employee training, facility inspections, recordkeeping, and assisting with incident investigations. The EHS Specialist works closely with HR, Operations, and Safety leadership to promote a safe workplace and reinforce a culture of accountability.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES:  Additional duties, which are necessary to carry out the function of the EHS Specialist, may be assigned and are incorporated by reference into this job description

  • Conduct routine safety inspections and audits of warehouses and facilities; report hazards and follow up on corrective actions.
  • Assist in the delivery of training sessions on safety topics such as accident prevention, emergency response, PPE use, hazard communication, and bloodborne pathogens.
  • Support accident/incident investigations by gathering details, documenting findings, and assisting with root cause analysis.
  • Partner with HR to provide incident documentation and coordinate follow-up for workers’ compensation cases.
  • Maintain accurate safety and compliance records, training logs, and regulatory reports.
  • Track leading and lagging indicators of safety performance and provide reports to supervisors and management.
  • Serve as a point of contact for employee safety questions and promote awareness of company safety policies and expectations.
  • Participate in emergency preparedness activities including drills and response procedures.
  • Research and share updates on OSHA, DOT, and industry requirements as directed by management.

REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Extensive knowledge of company safety policies and applicable Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Ability to conduct training;
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail;
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills;
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software; 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Health and Safety, Environmental Health, or related field preferred;
  • Health and safety certification required;

One year of related experience preferred;

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position does not have any direct supervisory responsibilities.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands of this job include strenuous mental activities related to instructing personnel and some physical activity.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, climb steps or ramps. The employee is frequently required to talk or hear and use hands to finger, handle or feel. The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms.  The employee may lift 20-40 pounds when needed and occasionally lift 50 to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee will normally work in an office environment and will frequent warehouses.  The noise level of the work environment is usually low to moderate.
