About the Department

Follow the approved standard operating procedures for sample handling and data review in compliance with the NELAC Standard. Support the Water Reclamation Facility with regulatory compliance. Represent the Laboratory during the Altamonte Springs Science Incubator.

Position Duties

  • Assist in sample receipt and log in.
  • Collect samples from residential/commercial buildings, treatment facilities, wells, lakes and streams.
  • Review raw data using quality control acceptance criteria.
  • Validate the accuracy of LIMS data import cross-referencing reviewed raw data.
  • Update Quality Control Charts for each parameter at the conclusion of raw data review.
  • Update Method Detection Limit Verification at the conclusion of raw data review.
  • Update Demonstration of Capability documentation after each proficiency testing study.
  • Maintain detail documentation as defined by NELAC and the Laboratory Technical Director.
  • Implement and manage technology solutions and artificial intelligence (AI) to optimize laboratory operations, enhance data analysis, improve experimental setups, and ensure high standards of quality control.
  • Cross-train in Process Control analysis for On-Call status. Be available for emergency call-outs, weekends and holidays.
  • Assist Chemists and the Technical Director with various tasks throughout the laboratory. Perform additional duties as assigned, including FDOH on-site assessment preparation and corrective actions.
  • Communication with WRF Regulatory Compliance Manager and understanding process control data.
  • Participate in the laboratory safety program.
  • Participate in the Altamonte Springs Science Incubator Program (Lab coat logistics, walking tour and instruction as needed).
  • Maintain a clean and orderly workspace.
  • Drive to and from various City work sites (City vehicle will be provided). Perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Complete required trainings as specified within the City’s Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan.
  • In the event of an emergency, all employees are considered essential and may be required to perform duties outside of their normal job description.

Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Biology or Environmental Science or equivalent combination of education (to include mathematics) and experience may be considered in lieu of Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Experience using spreadsheet and portable document format (PDF) software.
  • Valid driver license.  Must obtain Florida driver license within thirty (30) days of employment.
PREFERABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Willingness to adopt AI and emerging technologies.
