Description

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: The Safety Director is a strategic leadership role responsible for setting the vision, strategy, and execution of the company’s safety and security programs. This position ensures compliance with all applicable regulations, while proactively managing risk, protecting people and assets, and strengthening organizational resilience. The Director provides strategic oversight of workplace safety, security operations, emergency preparedness, and business continuity to support operational excellence and safeguard the company’s reputation and stakeholders.

 

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Provides strategic leadership and vision for both the safety and security departments, ensuring alignment with company goals and objectives. Oversees managers, setting performance expectations and driving operational excellence. Develops and implements policies, procedures, and initiatives to enhance efficiency and team performance. Collaborates with senior leadership to drive innovation, growth, and continuous improvement while fostering a positive and results-driven work environment.

 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • Develops and executes a comprehensive corporate safety and security strategy aligned with business objectives and regulatory requirements.
  • Establishes and maintains governance frameworks, policies, and procedures for occupational health, workplace safety, physical security, and risk management.
  • Serves as the primary advisor to senior leadership on safety, security, and risk exposure, providing actionable recommendations.
  • Oversees regulatory compliance with OSHA, FMCSA, ANSI, and other applicable standards, ensuring readiness for audits and inspections.
  • Directs incident response, investigations, and reporting, ensuring root cause analysis and enterprise-wide corrective actions.
  • Leads enterprise risk assessments and security vulnerability evaluations across all business operations and assets.
  • Oversees company-wide training and awareness programs to promote a strong culture of safety, security, and accountability.
  • Partners with HR, Legal, and Operations to manage Workers’ Compensation, claims, and regulatory matters.
  • Develops and directs emergency response, crisis management, and business continuity strategies.
  • Establishes performance metrics, dashboards, and reporting for safety and security effectiveness, ensuring accountability at all levels.
  • Engages with external stakeholders, including regulators, insurers, and industry associations, to represent the company’s safety and security interests.
  • Provides leadership and direction in developing and managing budgets, resources, and long-term plans for safety and security initiatives.
  • Performs other responsibilities as required by business priorities.

 

 

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Proven expertise in OSHA, FMCSA, ANSI standards, and corporate security practices.
  • Strong background in enterprise risk management and regulatory compliance.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and execute large-scale safety and security programs.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage and collaborate across all levels of the organization.
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to balance regulatory compliance, risk reduction, and operational goals.
  • Advanced analytical, strategic thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and enterprise safety/security management platforms.

 

 

CERTIFICATIONS & LICENSES

  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record required.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification required.

 

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Safety Management, Risk Management, or a related field required.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive leadership experience in safety.
  • Experience in agricultural or industrial sectors strongly preferred.

 

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Ability to maintain regular presence during business hours, with availability for critical response outside of normal hours.
  • Physical demands involve a combination of office work and frequent presence in operational environments, including field and facility settings.
  • Must be able to work in hot, cold, wet, humid, dusty, and foggy conditions as needed.
  • Walking, standing, kneeling, reaching, lifting, and climbing ladders.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to sit or stand for prolonged periods as warranted.
  • Ability to drive a vehicle on farm roads in rough terrain.
