The University of Chicago’s Department of Neurological Surgery, Section of Neurovascular Surgery, seeks a research appointee at any rank who will conduct academic research in association with a faculty member or team. The appointee will conduct research experiments broadly focused on imaging cerebral cavernous malformations and identifying plasma biomarkers related to their biologic activity, with the goal of using this knowledge to diagnose cerebral microbleeds in the aging brain. The appointee will assist with ongoing grant applications within the Neurovascular Surgery Research Laboratory and will be given opportunities to apply for independent funding. The appointee will also manage collaborative efforts with other laboratories within University of Chicago and externally. Academic rank and compensation are dependent upon qualifications. The appointee will join a vibrant center of scientific discovery and innovation. Opportunities for multidisciplinary collaboration are abundant, both within and outside the Biological Sciences Division. The Biological Sciences Division, other academic units of the University of Chicago, and UChicago Medicine are all contained within one compact campus in Chicago’s Hyde Park.
Prior to the start of employment, qualified applicants must: 1) hold a doctoral degree in neuroscience, vascular biology, biomarker science or related discipline and 2) have completed postdoctoral training.
We especially welcome applicants with expertise in the following areas: MRI quantitative data postprocessing, computational biology and statistical approaches to biomarker research. Applicants with experience in mouse models of disease, histolopathology, and spatial transciptomics are also welcome to apply.
