Basic Function:

The Shift Supervisor is the acting administrator for the Specialized Trauma-Informed Treatment, Assessment and Reunification (STTAR) Program for each assigned shift. The Shift Supervisor is directly responsible for the supervision of the children and staff, and the condition of the shelter facility for the shifts to which they are assigned.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. At the beginning of a shift, receive possession of shelter key ring and all information appropriate from previous shifts. Maintain accountability for all residents throughout each shift. Complete shift reports prior to transferring to next supervisor.
  2. Responsible for ensuring that the system of shift reporting by assigned staff is complete, accurate, and timely.
  3. Supervise any Child Care Workers assigned to the shift supervisor’s team.
  4. Oversee the safety and stability of all children in the STTAR for all shifts assigned by the Director. Inform on-call administrator and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) as directed in accordance with established procedures.
  5. Serve as primary line between the Director and the day-to-day child care services of the shelter.
  6. Directly intervene in the management and control of acting out behaviors and assist and supervise all other staff with such matters. Responsible for the philosophical and mechanical behavior management program on their assigned shift.
  7. Perform intakes of new admissions during the assigned shift in accordance with established procedures. Responsible for the completion of all intakes on their assigned shift.
  8. Ensure the development and implementation of all recreational, cultural and enrichment activities on all shifts. Oversee the use of the shelter vehicles.
  9. Ensure the appropriate completion of all documentation including incident reports, Use of Force Forms, Runaway forms, log books, shift reports, etc., by all staff on their assigned shift.
  10. Serve as a member of the shelter treatment team preparing the residential assessments, progress reports and discharge summaries in accordance with established procedures.
  11. Responsible for complete and appropriate coverage of all shifts.
  12. Be available for on-call and back-up responsibilities as needed. Be available to work extra shifts for emergency coverage as needed.
  13. Have a personal knowledge of the personality, behavior and treatment needs of all residents. Ensure that all STTAR staff have adequate working knowledge of shelter residents.
  14. Train assigned staff and ensure strict adherence to all STTAR Program Procedures.
  15. Administer medications to residents according to established procedures. Maintain state certifications.
  16. Maintain knowledge of and ensure that all staff know and follow agency policies and procedures as contained in the WCS Personnel Handbook, WCS Procedure Manual, and department manuals.
  17. Function as a positive role model for all students and staff at the Waterford Country School and the STAR Shelter.
  18. Maintain an awareness of and sensitivity to the cultural and socioeconomic differences present among the service population and fellow staff members of WCS, ensuring that cultural needs are respected and supported through the delivery of services and the development and implementation of agency programs and policies in a manner that is free from discrimination and bias relating to race, ethnicity, age, disability, gender, sexual orientation, status as a victim of domestic violence or religious beliefs.
  19. Maintain a valid Connecticut or other home state Driver’s License to transport residents in agency vehicles.
  20. Other duties as assigned by the Director of Residential Treatment.

Qualifications


Qualifications:

A Bachelors Degree or commensurate, extensive experience in working with children and adolescents in a residential setting.
