Pay Range: $50,000 ($24.04 per hour) to $60,000 ($28.85 per hour) annually based on experience

Job Status/Work Year: Full-time, non-exempt/hourly, year-round; 12-month


Job Summary‘Iolani School seeks a dedicated and skilled Sound Engineer to support the technical and creative needs of live events, performances, and school functions. This role plays a vital part in ensuring high-quality audio and video production for assemblies, chapels, concerts, theatrical productions, athletic events, and other special programs. The Sound Engineer will work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students to deliver professional-level production support that reflects the excellence of the ‘Iolani community.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Set up, operate, and maintain audio systems for a wide variety of on- and off-campus events, including assemblies, chapels, concerts, theatrical productions, and live music performances.

  • Operate digital and analog mixing consoles for live sound reinforcement, recording, and playback.

  • Manage tech riders, prepare equipment lists, and event timelines.

  • Provide audio engineering and technical support for live streaming of events to both internal and external audiences.

  • Perform basic recording, editing, and post-production for performances and events.

  • Maintain audio/visual equipment, troubleshoot technical issues, and ensure readiness for scheduled use.

  • Support general departmental operations, including office and administrative tasks as needed.

  • Collaborate with students and faculty, providing technical guidance, training, and support.

  • Other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications:


  • Proficiency in Yamaha Digital Audio Systems, audio signal flow, and gain staging.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a collaborative, service-oriented approach.

  • Ability to multitask effectively and manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines.

  • Working knowledge of:

    • Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

    • Google Workspace (Calendar, Drive, Docs, Forms, Sheets)

    • Zoom Video Conferencing

  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and irregular hours as required by school events.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with, or willingness to learn:

    • Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere Pro, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign)

    • Digital Audio Workstation (DAW), such as Ableton, Pro Tools, Logic

    • Hudl, Mevo, and other live-streaming platforms and workflows

  • Experience in training or mentoring students in audio/visual production a plus.

Physical Requirements:


  • Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds.

  • Full mobility for walking, bending, reaching, and accessing overhead shelves.

  • Full range of vision and hearing, with or without correction.

  • Must successfully pass fingerprinting, background checks, and TB clearance, due to working in proximity to children.
