Lake Norman Charter is seeking qualified candidates for Middle School Media Specialist for the remainder of the 2025-2026 school year. This position is located at LNC Middle School (grades 5-8).

Media Specialist
PURPOSE: To lead in providing accessible tools for students and staff to direct, enhance, and support the learning process. Knowledge of curricular areas is essential in order to serve the interdisciplinary needs of the learning community. It is the goal of the Media Specialist to work in a flexible environment, collaborate with staff, teach digital literacy and media literacy skills to students and staff, and maintain the holdings of the media center.
ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK
- Assembles collections of media that support the curriculum. Selects materials for a variety of student/staff interests, learning styles and reading levels. Is aware of cultural diversity/gender fair criteria in the selection and recommendation of suitability of materials for a middle school student.
- Promotes a variety of media choices to promote literacy.
- Solicits input from teachers and students concerning media and schedules the media center calendar to support the school community.
- Collaborates with and coaches teachers to provide instructional strategies and resources in teaching information and technology literacy skills.
- Promotes the development of good reading habits. Participates voluntarily in relevant growth including, but not limited to scheduling author visits, creating book challenges and promoting programs beyond the brick and mortar library.
- Assists in the development and administration of MS media budget.
- Maintains accounts payable and receivable for the daily operations of the media center.
- Prepares materials for circulation. Catalogs, classifies and organizes media according to accepted standards and ready accessibility. Supervises the processing of materials and circulation of media. Arranges for the inspection, maintenance, replacement, and repair of media under the realm of the responsibility assigned by the District.
- Eliminates out-dated, inappropriate and unsuitable materials. Maintains an accurate and current inventory of media materials and equipment, and submits reports in a timely manner, in order to adhere to the NCDPI library standards for a school library.
- Supervises, coordinates, and trains media center student helpers and volunteers.
- Works with technology and its integration, including new and emerging technologies.
- Applies professional skills to investigate, apply, and share new research on digital tools, resources, pedagogy, curriculum, and other relevant topics to the professional learning community.
- Participates in observations for professional growth and collaborates with other educators to mentor and support professional growth throughout the school learning community.
- Is knowledgeable about current trends in education.
- Markets and facilitates Scholastic book fairs to empower students to choose reading material and to fundraise for the media center.
- Upholds the Code of Ethics for North Carolina Educators and Standards for Professional Conduct.
- Other duties assigned by the building principal or other administrative staff.
REPORTS TO: Middle School Principal
SUGGESTED EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Minimum of a Bachelor's degree and Post-graduate degree in library and information science or educational media from an accredited institution
- Valid NC Educator’s Certificate in Educational Media Specialist
- Member of American Association of School Librarians; member of the NC School Library Media Association; member of American Library Association
- Familiar with Copyright Law
- Experience with multiple forms of instructional technology
