As a Recreation Therapy Assistant, you will provide Person Centered Care with direction from the Recreation Therapist and Care Manager by performing a variety of support duties associated with the provision of Recreation Services in accordance with set guidelines and practices. Providing hands-on assistance, cueing, and leadership in a variety of therapeutic recreational activities. These may include pet therapy, computers, and horticulture. Planning and leading activities, special events and creating monthly recreational calendars in collaboration with the Recreation Therapist. The successful candidate will be organized, Put People First and be willing to succeed by incorporating the CapitalCare Values into their work. The Therapy Assistant facilitates person centred care with direction from the appropriate Therapist or Manager, by performing a variety of support duties associated with the provision of Rehabilitation Therapy/Recreation Services in accordance with set guidelines and practices. Performs other related duties as assigned/required
Graduation from a recognized Recreation Therapy Diploma program (or equivalent) is required. Consideration may be given to those who have trained and worked at a professional Therapist level in another country. If the Therapy Assistant position is exclusive to Recreation, a combination of education and experience may be considered. Where position involves transportation of residents, a Class IV driver's license, Driver's Abstract with no demerit points and successful completion of a Defensive Driving Course are required. Able to meet CapitalCare's insurance coverage requirements. A combination of education and experience may be considered. Experience: Recent experience working with residents with Dementia is strongly preferred. Experience working in a day program or a continuing care setting is preferred. Personal Competencies: Beginner level of Microsoft Office application experience is required. Basic knowledge of Dementia is required and a knowledge of the impact that Dementia has on the functional ability of the client/resident. Manage sensitive information confidentially. Demonstrates awareness of accident and injury prevention; adheres to safe work practices and procedures; and is responsible for maintaining self-wellness and reduced absenteeism.
