Specific Job Responsibilities:
- Enforce the quality and safety policies within the laboratory scope.
- Prepares, fills and tests specialty gas cylinders using gas chromatography and various other process analyzers.
- Responsible for communicating with other departments and management with cylinder orders and test results.
- Handling of hazardous materials (HAZMAT).
- Manage day-to-day operation of laboratory analyses, safety, and compliance with applicable Federal, state, and local regulations and codes (such as FDA, DOT, OSHA, etc.).
- Responsible for maintenance of all analytical equipment within laboratory, ensuring all equipment is up-to date with external and internal calibrations.
- Maintain and update a variety of manuals and standard operating procedures.
- Responsible for developing, organizing and staffing lab.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university in chemistry or related field, required.
- At least two years in a supervisory capacity preferred.
- Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Demonstrate knowledge of analytical chemistry, instrumental analysis and statistical methods.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and bend, use hands and arms, handle and smell leaking gas from cylinder tanks and must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. The employee also regularly works near moving mechanical parts and hazardous materials and is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals.
