Description
We are seeking an experienced, dedicated, and compassionate Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) to join our pediatric outpatient team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in pediatric therapy, with a minimum of 3 years of clinical experience and specialized knowledge in treating children with neurological conditions, autism spectrum disorder, and other developmental needs. The PTA will work under the supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist to implement individualized treatment plans that promote mobility, strength, function, and overall quality of life for our patients.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care by carrying out treatment plans developed by the supervising Physical Therapist.
- Implement therapeutic interventions to address gross motor skills, balance, coordination, mobility, and strength.
- Apply evidence-based approaches and modalities appropriate for pediatric populations, including children with neurological and developmental diagnoses.
- Work collaboratively with families, caregivers, and interdisciplinary team members to support carryover of skills into the home and community.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient progress, treatment sessions, and caregiver communication.
- Assist in evaluating patient response to treatment and provide input for adjustments to care plans.
- Educate patients and families on exercises, positioning, and strategies to support long-term progress.
- Support the clinic’s mission to provide compassionate, family-centered care in a fun and engaging environment.
Requirements
Qualifications
- Required: Associate’s Degree from an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program.
- Required: Current state licensure/certification as a PTA.
- Required: Minimum 3 years of pediatric outpatient experience.
- Required: Demonstrated knowledge and clinical experience with:
o Neurological conditions (e.g., cerebral palsy, brain injury, genetic syndromes).
o Autism spectrum disorder and related developmental disorders.
o Early development in babies
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively engage with children, families, and the care team.
- Ability to work independently, take initiative, and adapt interventions to meet individual child needs.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with interdisciplinary teams (OT, ST, behavioral therapy).
- Familiarity with sensory processing approaches.
- Training in specialized pediatric therapy techniques (e.g., NDT, Kinesio taping, DMI aquatic therapy, Vestibular Rehabilitation).
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift, transfer, and assist pediatric patients safely.
- Frequent bending, kneeling, and floor-based activities required.
- Active participation in play-based and movement-based interventions.
