Position Purpose
Upholds the Credit Union’s mission of “We do the right thing one member, one employee, and one experience at a time to strengthen the communities we serve” by executing core accounting functions with precision and integrity. This role ensures accurate financial reporting and compliance through daily, monthly, and quarterly accounting tasks.
Essential Responsibilities - Responsibilities may vary based on departmental expertise and may include any or all the following duties.
- Oversee General Ledger (GL) activities, including posting journal entries, reconciling GL accounts, and conducting monthly account reconciliations for balance sheet items.
- Support branches in daily cash balancing, manage corporate check reconciliation processes, handle stop payment requests, and submit branch cash orders.
- Administer accounts payable, process employee expense reports, manage corporate credit cards, prepaids, and accruals.
- Prepare and remit credit union taxes, including quarterly sales tax filings and year-end 1099 documentation.
- Execute regulatory reporting requirements, including weekly Federal FR2900 financial reports and sections of the NCUA 5300 Quarterly Call Report.
- Manage fixed asset additions, transfers, and disposals, and assist with budget preparation.
- Process credit union certificate investments, ensuring accurate wire transfers for both sending and receiving funds.
- Compile and submit unclaimed property reports to state authorities.
- Other accounting related tasks as necessary.
Necessary Experience and Qualifications
- An associate degree in accounting, or related field preferred, or two years’ accounting/financial institution experience.
- Strong grasp of accounting principles, regulations, and financial reporting.
- Detail-oriented with problem-solving skills for complex issues.
- Excellent written, oral, and listening communication skills.
- Effective interpersonal skills, demonstrating integrity and confidentiality.
- Proficient with Microsoft Excel and accounting software.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
- Office environment with moderate level of noise
- Frequent use of telephone, copier, computer, fax machine and other office machines
- Prolonged sitting or standing
- Frequent mental and visual concentration
- Minimal lifting of up to 20 pounds
