Job Summary:
This position is responsible for utilizing clinical nutrition expertise and patient education skills to support patients receiving nutrition support infusion services by completing assessments, monitoring, and providing therapeutic interventions. This role will assist the Infusion Support Dietitian Director with leading, overseeing, and maintaining all functions of the Immunoglobulin (IG) nutrition program.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assess, monitor, and recommend therapeutic interventions for patients receiving parenteral nutrition (PN) and ensure appropriate documentation in the medical record.
- Evaluate and adjust PN prescriptions based on individual patient needs including macronutrients, electrolytes, micronutrients, and additional additives while following pharmacy stability and best clinical practice guidelines.
- Collaborate with the pharmacy, nursing, and sales teams to coordinate care plans, support referrals, and identify opportunities for program growth.
- Ensure compliance with applicable law, regulations, policies, and standards while delivering care that is culturally sensitive, and patient centered.
- Assist with insurance qualification and ensure necessary documentation is on file to secure reimbursement for PN therapy.
- Educate staff on nutrition-related topics, reimbursement requirements, and clinical best practices.
- Participate in dietitian team meetings, patient care conferences, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Lead, oversee, and coordinate the IG nutrition program functions to ensure high quality patient care, compliance, and program efficiency by:
- Monitoring weekly reports to identify patients in need of nutrition assessments.
- Ensure all patients have appropriate orders and authorizations required for the nutrition billing code.
- Assign nutrition assessments to team members and manage workflow to maintain timely completion.
- Develop and maintain patient and clinician education materials for the program.
- Conduct audits to ensure documentation is accurate, clinically appropriate, and compliant with policies and procedures.
Train new employees on the program and related job duties. - Identify research opportunities that can be presented at national conferences to represent the organization.
- Track outcomes to monitor program success and identify opportunities for program expansion
- Other related duties as assigned by manager or designee.
Job Requirements and Qualifications:
Education:
• Bachelor’s degree in nutrition, dietetics, or related field required.
• Completion of an ACEND-accredited dietetic internship program.
Certifications and Licenses
• Current registration as a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RD/RDN) through the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR).
• Licensure as required by state regulations.
• Advanced certification of Certified Nutrition Support Clinician (CNSC) on hire or completed within the first year of employment.
Experience
• Minimum of four (4) years’ experience with management of parenteral nutrition support.
• Experience with home parenteral nutrition management required.
Skills and Competencies:
• Proficient in using Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams), Windows-based systems, and internet resources.
• Proficient in parenteral nutrition formula calculation, evaluation, and adjustment.
• Demonstrate good communication skills (oral, written and presentation) with the ability to engage effectively with staff and patients at all levels.
• Strong decision-making skills with the ability to respond strategically and operationally to evolving clinical and organizational needs.
• Demonstrate innovation, adaptability and professionalism with sound judgement in all aspects of patient care.
