Job Duties

The Life Enrichment Manager is responsible for planning, organizing, developing, marketing and directing the overall operation of activities and recreation programming in accordance with policies and procedures, current federal, state and local standards, guidelines and regulations. Ensures that an on-going program of activities is designed to meet, in accordance with the comprehensive assessment, the interests and physical, mental, psychological, social & spiritual well-being of each resident. 

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of high school diploma and 1-3 years experience in a social or recreation program, preferably in an assisted living, healthcare or CCRC activities program.
  • Preferred qualifications would include Resident Activities Director (RAD) Certification or willingness to obtain certification, degree in therapeutic recreation, or NAAP certification.
  • Proficient computer skills - Microsoft Office, Publisher

  • Must be able to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset or memory-impaired residents within the community.
  • Must possess a driver’s license and a clean driving record.

Work Hours:

  • May require working long hours or hours outside of the normal work week.
  • Required to participate in the company or departmental Manager on Call program.
  • MAY BE DESIGNATED ESSENTIAL PERSONNEL IN THE EVENT OF EMERGENCY SITUATIONS, INCLUDING HURRICANES, EVACUATION, FIRE, FLOOD, ETC., AND BE REQUIRED TO REMAIN ON CAMPUS FOR THE DURATION OF THE EMERGENCY.

Essential Functions:

Activity Program Planning and Development

    • Plans, develops, organizes, implements, evaluates and directs the activity & life enrichment programs of the Assisted Living and Highland Court Assisted areas in accordance with the vision and mission of St. James Place.
    • Participates in the care plan process in conjunction with the Wellness Nurse and administers the activities function of the care plan process.
    • Monitors changes in current federal and state regulations, as well as professional standards, and recommends these changes in policies and procedures to the Director of Active Lifestyles or Assisted Living.
    • Plans, prepares, follows & monitors the budget for activity programming (food costs, equipment, supplies, and labor) and forecasts needs for the future.
    • Performs administrative functions such as completing necessary forms & reports and submits them to the Director of Active Lifestyles or Director of Assisted Living as required.
    • Prepares and posts calendar of activities; prepares and distributes departmental newsletter.
    • Reports operational concerns to the Director of Active Lifestyles or Director of Assisted Living.
    • Solicits advice from the other activity and life enrichment programming staff to find resolution to problems or improve services.
    • Coordinates travel arrangements & scheduling of outside guests or families for activities or events.
    • Ensures an equal balance of activities in both AL and HCAL

Direction of Activities – Staffing and Program Implementation

    • Directs staff and volunteers in fulfillment of assignments within budget, with quality and on schedule.
    • Evaluates safe work & activity practices & ensures resident safety, security & rights at all times.
    • Ensures that all activity or direct care staff are trained in the activity plan process.
    • Develops and maintains a good rapport with all staff to ensure that a team effort is achieved in developing a comprehensive plan of activities that coincide with resident needs.
    • Inspects activities functions periodically to assure that quality control measures are maintained.
    • Visits residents and provides assistance with activities.
    • Motivate residents and encourage participation in events and activities.
    • Keeps records of residents’ activity attendance, noting any progress, decline, or other changes.

 Leadership & Supervision

    • Participates in the interview and selection process of new staff, performance evaluation process and development of procedures to achieve goals.
    • Performs coaching & disciplinary actions as appropriate and in conjunction with the department director/manager.
    • Provides supervision & training to volunteers.
    • Facilitates, attends and participates in various departmental and management meetings as required.
    • Provides written and or oral reports of the programs and activities as required.
    • Meets with staff on a regular basis to develop, conduct and evaluate activities.
    • Participates in continuing education opportunities for personal growth and professional development.

Physical Requirements: Ability to stand and walk for extended periods; ability to utilize proper body mechanics.
