About the Department

JOB SUMMARY

This student worker position will provide tutoring and instructional support to students in the bilingual section of CGS100, assist with classroom logistics, grade/review student work, and support faculty with course needs. Must be bilingual in English and Spanish. 

For Fall term, CGS100 meets on Tuesdays from 6:00 - 8:50pm. This is a part-time position of no more than 20 hours per week. Preference will be given to students who qualify for Federal Work Study.

Position Duties

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Attend instructor’s face-to-face classes to assist with logistics and participate in classroom activities
  • Help/tutor students with content previously covered in the classroom or online
  • Grade/review student work – administer and correct exams
  • Assist faculty with course needs and classroom support as required
  • Identify and record common problem areas for the purpose of developing support services and reference materials
  • Contribute to a friendly and productive learning environment and participate in the overall academic and personal growth and development of participants
  • Adhere to Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) Regulations
  • Follow and enforce all KCC policies and procedures

 NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES NEEDED TO PERFORM THIS ROLE

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish
  • Must be available on Tuesdays from 6:00pm until 8:50pm (subject to change)
  • Effective interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work with diverse populations and relate to students at various academic levels and needs
  • Must be dependable, honest, responsible, and punctual
  • Must be friendly, patient, and have a positive attitude
  • Demonstrate professionalism, creativity, enthusiasm and encourage student success
  • Ability to explain facts or concepts in multiple ways
  • Willing to work a flexible schedule based on class times and instructor’s office hours
  • Be willing to commit to yearlong assignment
