 Youthnet is a nonprofit agency committed to serving children, youth and families in Western Washington. Our programs focus on supporting youth and families involved with our at risk of involvement in our state foster care system. We are working together to create opportunities for healing from the past and promoting hope for the future. As our organization continues to grow, we are currently seeking an experienced and mission-driven Director of Finance and Administration to join our team. This is a hybrid role with our main office in Mount Vernon, Washington. The Director will play a key role in strengthening financial and administrative systems that support our mission of serving youth and families. This is an exciting opportunity to lead and mentor a small team while contributing both strategic insight and hands-on expertise to ensure strong fiscal management and compliance with state government contracts.


The Director of Finance and Administration is responsible for leading the organization’s finance and administration functions, safeguarding assets, ensuring compliance, and supporting strategic decision-making. This role partners closely with the Executive Director, senior leadership, and the Board Finance Committee to align financial strategy with organizational goals, while also rolling up their sleeves to manage core accounting operations. This position will build and mentor a small finance and administration team, fostering a culture of accountability, inclusion and excellence.


 
What You Will Do Finance Leadership & Strategy

  • Partner with the Executive Director, program leaders, and Board to align on budgets and financial strategies with organizational priorities. 
  • Lead annual budget development and provide regular financial reporting, analysis, and variance explanations to leadership and the Board.  
  • Oversee cash flow and liquidity management to ensure financial stability and alignment of resources. 

Accounting Operations

  • Manage accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, reconciliations, and monthly close
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Ensure accurate tracking and reporting of restricted/unrestricted funds in accordance with grant/contract requirements.
  • Implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and financial transparency.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, Federal Uniform Guidance (2 CFR 200), and grant/contract requirements.
  • Maintain strong internal controls (COSO model) and promote fraud awareness and prevention.
  • Lead annual audit process, coordinate with auditors, and support required filings (990, 5500, etc.).

Administrative Leadership

  • Oversee HR and benefits administration, including 403(b) compliance and vendor relationships.
  • Identify and implement process improvements using current systems (Paylocity, QuickBooks, Divvy/Bill, SinglePoint, Bloomerang, state portals).
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to improve administrative processes and support organizational capacity. 

Team Development 

  • Recruit, mentor, and develop finance and administration staff; set clear goals and hold team members accountable.
  • Foster a culture of inclusion, professional growth and continuous improvement.
  • Provide hands-on support as needed while building team capacity for the future.

Requirements

  

What You Will Bring 

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA, CMA or advanced degree preferred.
  • Seven or more years of progressive accounting experience, ideally in a nonprofit setting with grant accounting experience.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, fund accounting, and state/federal grant compliance.
  • Prior experience managing or mentoring a finance/administration team. 
  • Advanced organizational, analytical, and critical thinking skills. 
  • Strong technical proficiency (e.g., QuickBooks/HRIS/Excel/Google Suite).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to collaborate effectively across functions. 
  • Commitment to equity, inclusion and mission-driven work; experience in a foster care, child welfare, or social services environment is a plus.
