About the Role
At Morningstar, our shared passion for empowering investors drives our collaboration and commitment. We are looking for a full time Senior SQL Server DBA (MS SQL DBA/SQL Database Administrator).
This position is based in our Toronto office, and we follow a hybrid policy of at least 3 days onsite.
Mandatory technical skills
- A minimum of 7 years combined rich work experience in MS SQL Server 2019, 2017, 2016 (or) 2012 versions.
- A minimum of 2 years of work experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS).
- Independently analyze, solve, and correct issues in real time, providing problem resolution end-to-end.
- Must be very hands-on in MS SQL Server database backup and recovery.
- Must be very hands-on with High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) options for SQL Server such as Always On availability groups, Database Mirroring, Windows Server Failover Clustering etc.
- Must be very hands-on with MS SQL Server database upgrades, Production to Test database refreshes (cloning) etc.
- Must be very hands-on in writing SQL statements (Structured Query Language).
- Strong database and SQL performance tuning skills.
- Strong T-SQL database programming and Windows Powershell scripting skills.
- Act as a subject matter expert (SME) for MS SQL Server database administration in the DBA team.
- Ability to work with cross-functional team members belonging IT Infrastructure, Information Security network storage etc. in articulating and convincing MS SQL Server requirements.
- Ready to participate in the DBA team on-CALL support rotation and annual Disaster Recovery (DR) tests for MS SQL Server.
Soft skills and educational qualifications
A Bachelors degree or above preferably in computer science.
Rich technical documentation skills.
Detail oriented, well organized and self-motivated.
A polite and respectful attitude towards team members.
A strong sense of urgency and adherence to project/task timelines.
Should be willing to work on some weekends (or) late night hours to handle urgent issues.
Should follow Database Administration best practices set by Morningstar DBA tech lead (or) DBA manager.
Fast learner and be able to take ownership at work. Execute a task/project from start to end by either working with a team or individually/independently.
Preferred skills
- Amazon Redshift
- Backup and Recovery with CommVault.
- Oracle (or) MySQL (or) PostgreSQL database administration.
