EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE 

High school diploma or equivalent and three years experience in a transportation environment. Must have knowledge of MARTA bus routes and rail lines. Must possess excellent computer skills in Microsoft applications.  Should also understand dispatching and utilizing the automated dispatch system.  Must understand the collective barging agreement and work rules. 

INTERVIEW SELECTION PROCESS: The selection process may include one or more components to demonstrate applicants’ knowledge, skills and abilities in job related areas. These may include exercises such as practical demonstrations, written communications, oral interviews and/or competency assessments.

SUMMARY 

Assists in assigning an operating division of approximately 300 operators to their runs and monitor their punctuality, personnel and pay records. Dispatches an adequate number of operators to all service areas by using available manpower.  Maintains and generates reports daily. Carries out major assignments in conducting the operations of the business. Performs work that affects business operations to a substantial degree. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  1. Assigns work to and supervises unit employees.  Ensures day-to-day activities, in support of unit work goals, are completed in an efficient and cost-effective manner within established policies and procedures.

  2. Makes daily work assignments to operators in accordance with the labor agreement.

  3. Monitors the appearance and physical composure of the operators reporting for duty.

  4. Assists in the planning and scheduling of general and line mark-ups.

  5. Assists the Superintendent in the day to day operations of the dispatcher’s office.

  6. Acquires and maintains a working knowledge of the union contract and operating rules and regulations.

  7. Insures that a proper number of additional operators are available for uninterrupted service.

  8. Carries out major assignments in conducting the operations of the business.

  9. Performs work that affects business operations to a substantial degree.

  10. Maintains operator daily work record, payroll sheet, and other related documents.

  11. Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES 

Assigns work to and supervises unit employees.  Must occasionally drive bus.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS 

Must have CDL.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS 
This position is required to work variable shifts including weekends, holidays, and participate in a 24/7 operations and work during times of inclement weather. 

This position must pass a physical examination and substance abuse test.
