The Opportunity
Join us in Brisbane/Sydney/Adelaide/ Perth as a Senior Design Geotechnical Engineer, where your expertise will be pivotal in shaping the success of major infrastructure projects. You’ll lead the delivery of innovative, cost-effective geotechnical design solutions through advanced analysis, modelling, and reporting.
You’ll take ownership of technical outcomes, proactively managing risks and identifying opportunities to improve project performance. Your leadership will empower the team through knowledge sharing and mentoring, while your commitment to industry standards will ensure compliance and design integrity. Close collaboration with internal and external stakeholders will drive reliable, high-quality results.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the design and analysis of geotechnical structures including deep and shallow foundations, retaining walls, RSS walls, and slope stability solutions.
Conduct advanced geotechnical modelling and design for road and rail infrastructure, including cut/fill optimisation, batter stability, and anchoring systems.
Develop safe, practical, and efficient temporary works designs (such as platforms, retaining systems, and excavations) in compliance with relevant design codes and construction requirements.
Collaborate with civil, structural, and environmental teams to integrate geotechnical design into broader project frameworks.
Plan and oversee site investigations, including borehole drilling, in-situ testing (SPT, CPT, pressuremeter, etc.), sampling, and monitoring activities.
Prepare and review Geotechnical Design Reports (GDR), Ground Investigation Reports (GIR), and Geotechnical Factual Reports (GFR).
Assess geotechnical risks and implement effective mitigation strategies.
Provide technical leadership, mentoring junior engineers, and contributing to continuous improvement in design practices.
Required Skills and Competencies
Extensive experience in geotechnical design engineering in consultant firms across infrastructure and/or construction projects (>8 years).
Strong communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders.
Degree qualified in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering (postgraduate qualifications desirable).
Passionate about collaborative problem-solving and delivering technically sound, practical solutions.
Proficient in performing geotechnical analyses using industry-standard software and experienced in numerical modelling tools, particularly PLAXIS (2D & 3D).
Programming skills in Python and Visual Basic are desirable.
Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) qualification or close to achieving it.
