Job Opportunity:

Qualifications to Enter CPCC Program:

  • Must be 18 years of age on or before the official end date of the course
  • High school diploma/GED
  • Valid and current driver’s license
  • Ability to lift 100+ lbs, with assistance
  • Ability to pass skills performance that requires extensive bending, stretching, kneeling, stooping, balance, walking, and crawling.
  • No prior or current EMT certification
  • Transcript requirement: Must provide an official transcript verifying completion of at least 10th grade English (eligible to take 11th grade English). Transcript upload required at the time of application. Placement exams may be used if transcripts are insufficient.

Physical & Medical Acknowledgement:
In partnership with Central Piedmont Community College (CPCC), applicants will be asked to complete a Physical and Medical Acknowledgement Form. This form outlines the essential physical requirements of the EMT/Paramedic program and helps determine fit for duty in alignment with program expectations and safety standards.
**Completion of this form is required prior to final acceptance and ensures that applicants are informed of the physical demands of the role and training environment**

Interview and Selection Process- This process will last approximately 2-3 months:

  • Full shift (10,13, or 13.5 hour, dependent on crew availability) ride along with Medic crew on an ambulance
  • Panel interview with Medic staff
  • Basic testing and/or homework assignment

 

Conditions of Successful Course Completion Leading to Employment:

  • Follow all CPCC guidelines, policies, and procedures
  • Maintain 90% attendance
    • Tuesday/Thursday class schedule (6PM-10PM) and every other Saturday for a total of 248 class hours
  • Maintain an average of 80% on all written evaluations
  • Complete 48 hours of clinical training/ride-time
  • Obtain NC EMT credential
  • Must be able to work under pressure in medical emergencies
  • Must be able to communicate clearly in writing and verbally
  • Must learn to adapt to frequent changes quickly
  • Must be alert at all times and pay close attention to details

Contingent Employment Offer Post CPCC EMT Course based upon satisfactory completion of the following:

  • Drug screen
  • Pre-employment physical and health screening
  • Background checks may include but are not limited to:
    • A moving violation is any violation of the law committed by the driver of a vehicle while it is in motion
    • Non-moving violations are not counted against an MVR. They include paperwork violations, parking violations, and equipment violations.
    • No more than three combined moving violations
    • No convictions of DWI, Reckless Driving, or Suspensions due to moving violations
    • Motor vehicle (A clean driving record is defined as an MVR (5-year history)) that has:
    • Criminal
    • Sanction
    • Credit
    • Reference Checks
  • Successful completion of Medpat (Physical Ability Test)
  • Successful completion of Scope of Practice to obtain local credentials
  • Provide proof of employment eligibility. Refer to the I-9 form for additional information

 

Continued Conditions of Employment Post CPCC EMT Course:

  • Maintain insurability with Agency's insurance carrier
  • Annual Respiratory Fit Testing
  • Agency-Approved Driving Course
  • All Mandatory In-service Training
  • Ability to perform essential functions of positions with or without reasonable accommodation and without posing a threat of harm to self or others
  • Ability to work flexible hours to include holidays, nights, and weekends, time off is NOT granted within the first 90 days of employment.
  • This position is considered a critical function within the Agency; therefore, this position is subject to callback and overtime as required
  • Must be able to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods; must be able to adjust to maintain clinical ability regardless of the treatment scene; have the dexterity to use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands, and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear; and taste or smell. The employee must regularly lift and move more than 100 pounds.  The employee must be capable of safely operating and driving a commercial vehicle in a high-stress environment.

  • Must adhere to all policies, work rules, procedures, and standards

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme cold; extreme heat; risk of electrical shock; explosives; risk of radiation; and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

At-Will Employment:

All Agency employees who do not have a written individual employment contract for a specific, fixed term are classified as “at-will” employees.  This means that employees may resign at any time, and the Agency may terminate employment at any time with or without notice for any reason or no reason.

 

**By accepting the CPCC EMT Scholarship and entering the Program, you will be expected to fulfill all course requirements. Upon graduation and certification, you will also be expected to work as a full-time employee with Medic for a minimum of one (1) year.   During your employment, you will receive a salary and benefits and, should you decide to continue with Medic after your one year service obligation, you will have opportunities for further growth and advancement.   

If you do not complete the course of instruction without good reason, or if you do not fulfill the obligation to work for Medic for at least one (1) year, Medic may seek reimbursement from you for scholarship payments you received up to the point that your affiliation with the Program ends.  If you complete the Program and your service obligation, there is no repayment obligation.
