The Service & Team:

In order to make most effective use of Home Office, Department for Levelling Up Housing and Communities (DLUHC) and Cornwall Council resources we have created an integrated Resettlement Service that brings together the various work streams and funding we receive from government to meet the needs of Ukrainians, Afghans, asylum seekers and other refugees.​ 

This post holder will be part of the Resettlement Team who support and empower vulnerable refugees (individuals, couples, families and children) in Cornwall. 

 

The Role:

Your role will be to provide a comprehensive, proactive package to Refugees accommodated in Resettlement Accommodation provided through the Local Authority Housing Fund  or hosted accommodation under Homes For Ukraine Scheme and empower them to take the next step in their housing journey and move on to more settled living arrangements and ensure they have all the tools required to move on into suitable permanent accommodation.

To work collaboratively, to achieve rapid and positive move-on from emergency and short-term accommodation. To minimise the length of stay in accommodation provided by the Resettlement Service and to ensure all move on options are explored. 

This is a public/customer-facing role, where the statutory English language requirement for public sector workers applies.               

This position will be subject to a enhanced criminal record disclosure check. 

 

Working Pattern:

This role is full time- Monday to Friday 9am-5pm. 

This is a fixed term contract for 2 years.

This role involves both office working and outreach work across the county 

 

What you’ll need to succeed:

  • A good understanding of the current issues and themes related to refugees and asylum seekers.
  • An applied understanding of equalities and diversity, including cultural competence.
  • A high standard of accuracy, literacy, and numeracy and high level of IT literacy especially on Microsoft Office products - Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. 
  • A working knowledge of the Housing Act 1996 part VII (as amended by the Homelessness Act 2002) and the Localism Act 2012 
  • Knowledge of the Social Housing Allocations Framework (part VI of the Housing ACT 1996) 
  • Understanding of benefits and social care legislation and housing options
  • Detailed knowledge of working practices of Private Rented Sector recognises when offers of accommodation in the Private Rented Sector may be appropriate.
  • Knowledge and experience of housing management including rent accounting and tenancy management 
  • Understanding of support issues and organisations that can address these
  • High level administrative and self-organisational skills 
  • Can easily adapt to changing processes and unforeseen challenges
