Position Summary
Under general supervision, perform skilled millwright/mechanical work including installation, maintenance, demolition, troubleshooting, and repair of mechanical systems throughout all Denver Water Facilities. Install and maintain pumps, valves, motors, compressors, generators, HVAC, chillers, cooling towers, hydro-electric plants, doors, piping systems, gauges, pneumatics, hydraulics, domestic water supply systems, cranes, specialty tools, machines, and other related systems.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position does not have formal supervisory responsibilities over other employees.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities - Maintenance Mechanic
- Perform demolition of obsolete equipment and installation of new/replacement equipment by interpreting blueprints. Perform precision leveling using laser align equipment and monitor equipment for start-ups.
- Perform installation and maintenance of hydraulic systems from 80psi to 3000psi including layout of piping (copper, stainless, PVC, black iron). Perform installation and maintenance of sub pumps, drains, and other drainage systems.
- Assist in the construction of safe rigging during the installation and/or removal of equipment in difficult/hazardous situations.
- Perform proper lockout/tag-out of all types of energy systems including electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, water, etc. for the safety of all employees.
- Assist in tasks related to predictive/preventive maintenance technologies. Establish equipment baselines, historical databases, procedures, processes, routine testing cycles, and types of testing equipment.
- Assist in the inspection of mechanical equipment in pump stations, water treatment plants, vaults, hydroelectric plants, and other Denver Water facilities.
- Utilize a variety of PDM-type testing equipment to record and analyze the vibration of machinery, temperature, ultrasonic readings, and oil analysis to ensure proper installation and calibration of equipment for correct operation.
- Assist in troubleshooting and repair of mechanical related problems in hydroelectric plants, water treatment facilities, pump stations, and vaults.
- Operate computer system and appropriate programs. Analyze testing data to provide information based on predictive maintenance procedures.
- Keep current on new and existing technology related to vibration analysis, oil analysis, alignment methods, predictive/preventive procedures, etc. through regular training and/or certification.
- Perform related work as required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities - Maintenance Sr. Mechanic
- Repair, replace, modify, and install equipment and components related to all maintenance tasks involving facilities. Troubleshoot HVAC control problems and re-adjust system as necessary.
- Review and interpret work from blueprints, schematics, diagrams, and work requests.
- Perform the inspection of heating/cooling systems, and other mechanical type equipment and systems for the continued success of the preventive maintenance program at all facilities.
- Assist in the review of building maintenance contracts, bid proposals and specifications.
- Maintain work and production information and data through record keeping and inventory control. Provide regular reports to appropriate departments.
- Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair complex mechanical equipment located at various Denver Water facilities such as pumps, valves, motors, air compressors, evaporative coolers, chillers, cooling towers, hydroelectric plants, doors, gates, piping, accumulator system, cranes, elevators, hatches, lids, and other equipment related to mechanical operating systems.
- Perform installation and maintenance of hydraulic systems from 80psi to 3000psi including layout of piping (copper, stainless, PVC, black iron).
- Utilize safe rigging practices during the installation and/or removal of extremely heavy and bulky equipment in difficult/hazardous situations. Perform proper lockout/tag-out of all types of energy systems including electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, water, etc. for the safety of all employees.
- Assist on the development of predictive and preventive maintenance procedures in all trade shops.
- Utilize a variety of PDM-type testing equipment to record and analyze the vibration of machinery, temperature, ultrasonic readings, and oil analysis to ensure proper installation and calibration of equipment for correct operation.
- Design and/or assist in the design of mechanical control systems. Develop required drawings.
- Train and instruct employees in work procedures and methods. Assist with various projects and ensure the cleaning of equipment and working areas.
- Prepare estimates of materials, parts, equipment requirements, requisitions of materials, and supplies from general stock.
