Alberta Health Services is inviting applications for a General Obstetrician and Gynecologist to join the Lois Hole Hospital for Women based at the Royal Alexandra Hospital. We are hiring for 2.0 FTE, and successful candidates can be considered for 1.0 FTE or a fraction thereof.
The Royal Alexandra Hospital is a tertiary acute care hospital with 21 Obstetricians/Gynecologists in private practice and 28 sub-specialists, who perform more than 7,000 deliveries and 5,000 gynecological surgeries per year. It offers a dynamic Women’s Health program dedicated to strengthening women’s health services, enhanced teaching, clinical innovation and research.

The successful applicant shall have or be eligible for certification in Obstetrics and Gynecology with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and be eligible for unrestricted licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.
Being a skilled high-risk obstetrician will be required to be considered for this position. Additional skills or training in education, leadership or experience with underserved communities would be considered an asset. As a generalist, the candidate will also be expected to have a general obstetrics and gynecology practice.
The successful candidate will have superior interpersonal skills and be a proven team player. The ability to work congenially within a group setting is an absolute prerequisite. The candidate will be expected to participate in the medical education program. Minimum obstetrical numbers will be an expectation of the successful candidate, as well as participation in the call roster. Currently 21 Obstetrician Gynecologists participate in the on-call roster, with 2 person in-house on call 24/7, with operating room time also allocated with the position.
The successful candidate will be expected to apply for a Clinical Faculty Appointment in the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology, University of Alberta. This will be considered under a separate process through the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry which has been internationally recognized as among the world’s top 50 medical schools and as one of Canada’s premier health-education institutions and is located in Edmonton.
