PURPOSE

 

The Columbia Public School District is seeking a Head Coach for Dance at Battle High School.

 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

 

The Head Coach Dance is responsible for:

  • Maintaining the Dance program at Battle High School
  • Maintaining positive communication with patrons and parents of athletes and potential athletes.
  • Coordinating off-season camps and conditioning programs.
  • Encouraging good sportsmanship and enthusiasm for sport.
  • Collaborating with other coaches to ensure a comprehensive approach to athletes.
  • Ensuring compliance with MSHSAA.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Perform other duties as necessary to support the mission and vision of Columbia Public School District.

QUALIFICATIONS

 

Minimum:

 

If hired, must successfully complete MSHSAA minimum requirements including First Aid & CPR/AED training course, Concussion in Sports training course, sport specific online rules review and test, Student Mental Health and Suicide Prevention training course, and Heat Illness Prevention training course.

Preferred: Missouri teaching certificate; Prior teaching/coaching experience.

 

An ideal candidate will have a professional and friendly demeanor with a demonstrated ability to work well with a variety of individuals in a fast-paced environment.

 

4.1.2 Activity Director/Coach Levels and Minimum Requirements:

  1. Director/Head Coach – Minimum Requirements: As per By-Law 4.1.1.a, each interscholastic activity team/group must have a head director/coach who meets the following requirements and who, then, may fill the duties and obligations of a head director/coach for the activity team/group, both under the by-laws and per the activity rules. [*=One-Time Requirement]
  2. General Requirements for All Activities Directors/Head Coaches:

(a) Board of Education or Board of Governance approval prior to activity related contact.

(b) Background Check including Sex-Offender’s Registry Clearance prior to activity related contact.

(c) Successful completion of the MSHSAA Activity-Specific Online Rules Review and Test prior to approval.

(d) Successful completion of a Student Mental Health and Suicide Prevention training prior to approval and renewed every two years.

(e) Successful completion of a Concussion Course, and review of current concussion information yearly.

(f) Successful completion of a First Aid/CPR/AED course prior to coaching and renewed every two years.

  1. Spirit (Sideline Cheer and Dance Teams):

(a) A valid Professional Teacher’s Certificate approved by the State Department of Education OR has completed and passed the online NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching Course prior to coaching. *

(b) Successful completion of a course in Heat Illness Prevention/Recognition, which must be renewed every two years.

Computation: Perform basic mathematical functions such as adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing; Apply concepts, such as, fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations. 

 

Reasoning: Solve a variety of problems in many different situations; Interpret instructions presented in written, oral, diagram or schedule form; Apply knowledge of current educational theory and instructional techniques while presenting subject matter to students. 

 

Other Skills and Abilities: Identify the needs and abilities of individual students and adapt instructional methods; accordingly, establish and maintain effective relationships with students, staff, administrators, and parents; perform multiple tasks simultaneously. 

 

Technology: Perform basic computer functions such as word processing and internet use; Use district software for finding student information; Utilize smart boards, projectors and other instructional technology provided by the district. 

 

Physical Demands: Speak and hear in an environment where numerous conversations and activities may be taking place simultaneously; Move around a classroom, gymnasium, and playing field; Read handwritten or printed material.

Attendance: Consistent and regular attendance is an essential function of this position: Requires frequent evening and/or weekend work related to practice and competition; Evenings and/or weekends travel to accompany students to games and meets.

 

Sensory Requirements: The position requires normal visual acuity and field of vision, hearing and speaking.

 

Conditions and Environment: The individual who holds this position will regularly work in a school environment that is noisy and active. The individual will be required to work outdoors.
