GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

This position within the Alkermes Global Security team is responsible for developing and implementing security measures to safeguard personnel, assets, and information. Based at the Waltham site, the Security Manager leads site security operations and supports enterprise-wide initiatives including event security, travel safety, workplace violence prevention, crisis management, and remote workforce protection.

 

 

 

Responsibilities

KEY DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage the Alkermes Waltham site security program.

  • Oversee physical security measures, including access control systems, visitor management systems, video management systems, and perimeter security.

  • Manage 24/7 contract security personnel; ensure effective coverage and performance.

  • Conduct risk assessments and security audits; identify vulnerabilities and recommend mitigation strategies.

  • Create, modify, and maintain Security SOPs; deliver training as required.

  • Provide first point of contact for security-related issues or disaster recovery during regular and after business hours when necessary.

  • Manage relationships with security service providers, ensuring compliance with contracts and service level agreements.

  • Coordinate with external security service providers and law enforcement agencies to enhance site safety.

  • Assist in contingency planning and emergency management.

  • Represent Global Security on the Waltham Threat Management Team (TMT) and Crisis Management Team (CMT).

  • Lead investigations into security incidents, losses, and policy violations; prepare reports and liaise with law enforcement as needed.

  • Directly support Alkermes events globally by developing and implementing security & medical response plans.

  • Support the Alkermes Travel Security program as a named authorized person for the company’s duty-of-care provider.


 

Qualifications

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Security Management, Criminal Justice, Business Administration, or related field.

  • 5–7 years of experience in corporate security management or law enforcement.

  • Industry certifications (e.g., CPP, CTM, CEM) strongly preferred.

  • Deep knowledge of security technologies, risk mitigation, and emergency protocols.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES:

  • Strong background in security risk management and emergency response.

  • Familiarity with pharmaceutical utilities and mechanical plant systems is a plus.

  • Proven ability to manage vendor relationships and optimize contracted services.

  • Proficient in access control and video surveillance systems; strong troubleshooting skills.

  • Positive, reliable, and adaptable under pressure; exercises discretion and diplomacy.

  • Strong communicator across all levels and functions

  • Self-directed and resourceful; able to prioritize effectively.

  • Ability to work a hybrid office schedule in our Waltham facility.
