About the Position:

This role is an on-campus, in-person position.

The Social & Digital Content Creator position requires an individual who is an exceptional visual storyteller, adept at creating engaging and brand-relevant content that will support the strategic vision for SMU Cox School of Business. The ideal candidate is a collaborative and energetic self-starter who is skilled at turning ideas into original and attention-grabbing video, photo, audio, graphic and written content for internal and external audiences in multi-channel marketing campaigns. Candidates should be well versed in creative formats and trends for social media platforms, and have experience planning, capturing, launching and analyzing content for iterative improvement. This position reports to the SMU Cox Senior Director of Marketing and requires regular attendance at on campus and off campus events.

Essential Functions:

  • Concept, create and manage content on LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, X, TikTok, YouTube and other SMU Cox communications channels. This includes shooting video, capturing photos, designing graphics, conducting interviews or interacting with subjects, writing compelling captions and editing video and photos in-app or on Adobe Suite programs, routing for approvals and publishing approved content.

  • Assist with social community management by regularly listening, monitoring, collaborating and responding to SMU Cox-related discussions on our platforms on behalf of the Cox School and our dean.

  • Use research, analytics and key performance measures to inform and elevate content creation and ongoing workflows.

  • Contribute to annual and monthly content planning by strategically collaborating with partners across the university and the SMU Cox community to conceptualize and execute ideas for content-rich moments that will engage key audiences and amplify storytelling across communication platforms.

  • Actively coach partners on social media and digital best practices and assist in developing strategies for partner organizations within SMU Cox.

  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Position requires attendance at Cox School events, which are often held in early weekday evening hours and occasionally on weekends.

     


Education and Experience:

A Bachelor’s degree is required.

Minimum three (3) years of professional work experience planning, creating, editing, proofing, publishing and analyzing captivating content for social media and other communication platforms is required. Experience with creative editing tools for audio, video and photography is also required. Copywriting experience is also a plus. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Candidate must demonstrate strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate broadly across the University and develop and maintain effective relationships with a wide range of constituencies. Must also demonstrate strong written communication skills.

Candidate must possess strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and analyze problems, as well as devise solutions. Must also have strong organizational, planning and time management skills. 

Candidate knowledge of social media platform best practices, trends, audiences and content creation tools is plus.  

Candidate must be proficient in social in-app photo and video editing tools, Canva, Adobe Creative Suite (particularly Premiere, Illustrator, After Effects, PhotoShop, InDesign), and Microsoft Office programs. Must be familiar with taking video or photos on a phone, hand-held camera or iPad.

Candidate knowledge of Sprout, Asana and AI tools is a plus.
