Job Title: Dispatch Supervisor

Department: Delivery

Location: Tacoma, WA

Reports To: Operations Manager

FLSA Status: Full-time, Hourly Non-Exempt

Under the direction of the Operations Manager, the Dispatch Supervisor is responsible for providing daily direction and support to the branch’s commercial and local delivery drivers. Through demonstrated safe behaviors, the Dispatch Supervisor will work with the delivery drivers to provide accurate and efficient, on-time deliveries of finished products to customer locations and/or specified job sites. This position will work with their immediate supervisor and significantly influence all areas regarding staffing, employee engagement and development, and accountability.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

This is a Full-Time position. Normal days of work are Mondays through Fridays; shift availability may vary. Hours may need to be extended or adjusted at any time, with or without notice, to meet the needs of the organization.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

•Will work with Operations Manager and provide feedback in areas of staffing such as, but not limited to, hiring, termination of employment, rewarding and disciplining employee's, and continuous training and education.

•Responsible for taking calls and managing the schedule of trucks on the daily receiving board.

•Ensures drivers are routed effectively to meet planned commitments while keeping in mind length, the purpose of the trip, and freight requirements. Use of route optimization and knowledge of the local market to meet established delivery targets and goals.

•Plays a critical role in onboarding new drivers and management of delivery operations equipment and expenses, to include but not limited to, issuing keys, record sheets, providing credentials to drivers, maintaining records of mileage, fuel usage, scheduling and tracking of repairs and other expenses. Will issue equipment to drivers such as hand trucks, dollies, and blankets. •Will coordinate for a helper to assist the primary driver as necessary dependent on scheduled deliveries and route.

•Records time of departure, destination, cargo, and expected time of return.

•Responsible for providing professional and timely communication to OrePac customers to expedite or locate missing, misrouted, delayed, or damaged products. Responsible for arranging pick-up and return of material.

•Establishes service or delivery routes with the expectation to revise and adjust as necessary based on market demands.

•Responsible for arranging back hauls as appropriate.

•Responsible for adherence to OrePac’s safety program. Shares responsibilities with Operations Management in efforts to aid in training, conducting safety observations, and participating in incident investigations to determine root cause.

•Assures driver compliance with applicable state and federal regulations

•Follow and comply with OrePac’s policies and procedures and applicable state and federal laws.

•Expected to work alongside delivery drivers to meet and/or exceed established goals for efficiency and profitability of trucking operations as periodically established.

•Responsible for conducting performance reviews for department employees. Providing ongoing feedback and coaching for employee development and growth.

QUALIFICATIONS:

REQUIRED SKILLS:

•Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals

•Ability to write routine reports and correspondence

•Must be flexible and ready to adapt within a fast-paced working environment while maintaining quality results and achieving operational delivery goals.

•Strong communication skills. Comfortable engaging and leading individual and team discussions and meetings. Ability to articulate direction and expectations to teammates in a clear and concise manner.

•Ability to re-prioritize as necessary throughout the day with minimal supervision and effectively communicate changes with the team.

•Knowledge and understanding of safety and transportation requirements, DOT compliance, use of ELD equipment, and route optimization and delivery efficiencies.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:

High School diploma or general education degree (GED), experience of at least one year (preferred) or any combination of education, training or experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.

OrePac’s safety policy requires the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in designated safety-sensitive areas while on OrePac property. OrePac will provide required PPE to employees.

OrePac employees who handle or deliver OrePac products while not on OrePac property are required to adhere to OrePac’s safety policy and use the required PPE necessary for their specific role.
