Cary’s Youth Programs is seeking individuals to help lead planning, logistics, and staff development for youth programs like Summer Camps and Track Out. This role is perfect for someone who enjoys building strong teams, developing engaging programs, and creating a fun and inclusive environment for kids and staff alike.
Daytime availability is required with occasional evening and weekend support as needed.
This is a temporary, non-benefited position, up to 20 hours a week, with a maximum of 999 hours per year.
Position Duties
- Coordinates day-to-day operations of seasonal youth programs and camps.
- Leads planning and implementation of creative, age-appropriate program activities.
- Supports seasonal hiring efforts, including assisting with recruiting and scheduling part-time and volunteer staff.
- Organizes and delivers staff training and professional development sessions.
- Builds a strong staff culture by supporting team engagement and morale throughout the season.
- Monitors program quality, staff performance, and participant experience.
- Oversees staff time entry and ensure compliance with safety standards.
- Tracks program supplies and assist with purchasing and inventory.
- Maintains records, draft reports, and support program evaluation efforts.
- Collaborates with other departments such as Inclusion Services
- Fosters an inclusive environment that welcomes participants and staff of all backgrounds and abilities.
- Performs other job-related tasks as required.
Minimum Qualifications
- Knowledge of youth programs, recreation services, and related departmental goals.
- Familiarity with office procedures, computers, and common software tools.
- Ability to remain organized, multitask and meet deadlines.
- Skilled in planning creative, detail-oriented activities and events.
- Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and the public, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to lead other part-time staff teams and provide feedback
- Ability to handle administrative tasks with a keen attention to detail
- Ability to acquire knowledge of policies, procedures, and services of the facility, division and department.
Other Qualifications
Education and Experience
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Requires a combination of education and experience equivalent to an associate’s degree.
Requires a First Aid/CPR Certification, or the ability to obtain one with supplied training in the first six months.
Preference for the position will be given to candidates who possess the following:
- Some experience working with youth programs, camps, recreation or education.
- Some experience with program development or planning.
Physical Requirements
Work in this class requires the ability to be physically active and to stand for long periods of time. Work requires the employee to be able to work outdoors in challenging conditions, such as heat and humidity. An employee must be able to hear and talk in order to communicate with the public and with groups under instruction. An employee must be able to climb, walk unassisted and move about freely. Visual acuity is needed to read typewritten and handwritten materials and to view a computer terminal.
Conditions of Employment
Requires drug testing and background check (which may include criminal check, education verification and credit history review) prior to employment.
Requires possession of a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
