Reporting to the Manager, Career Development; this position is an active member of a team responsible for the delivery of career development services and training program which are designed to maximize employment and education opportunities of Northerners and enhance the economic potential of Nunavut. This position is responsible for the support and promotion of Nunavut’s Inuit Employment Policy and for maintaining a working knowledge of other programs delivered by the department. You will also work closely with the income assistance division to assist income assistance clients with productive choices and career development services and programs.
Key responsibilities of the Career Development Officer provide Career Development Services to groups and individuals. Promotes, plans, administers and delivers Human Resources Planning service based on Labour Market Information, prioritizing Affirmative Action/Target Group candidates. Administers and delivers education training, employment and preparation programs, employment insurance benefits and measures and provides work experience, education and entry/re-entry level training to clients. Develops strategies for and participates in the promotion of Career Centre activities to effect high community visibility and ensure distribution of career information.
Qualifications
The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through a certificate in Career Development, Career Counselling, Human Resources Management or related field and two (2) years of related experience in career counselling or adult education or training. Incumbent must have knowledge of developing, assessing, monitoring and evaluating training programs, workshops and presentations; reviewing policy and procedural documents; counselling employers, students and apprentices’ trainees and preparing written reports. Certification to administer and interpret aptitude tests is an asset. Apprenticeship background or Journeyman certification is an asset. This is a Highly Sensitive Position and a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, along with a clear Vulnerable Sector Check is required.
The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages would be considered an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land,Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.
