This position is located at Vandenberg Space Force Base, California.  

 

This position is not eligible for telecommuting.
 

Salary determined by Collective Bargaining Agreement.

 

Essential Functions

  • Direct and supervise the activities of the Mission Control team in a technical and administrative aspect.
  • Direct and develop technical support requirements for telemetry, metric/radar, optics, command transmitters, weather, data centers, and communications.
  • Interface directly with Senior Government, RGNext management, and launch customers.
  • Interpret and communicate government and launch customer requirements.
  • Direct and lead a team of planners/controllers.
  • Responsible to present/brief and prepare technical mission support plans. 
  • Analyze, plan, review, revise and develop technical documentation required to meet customer daily and mission support communication configuration requirements for the Western Range to include PRD, PSP, OD and VPS’s.  
  • Develop Operational support plans, operational directives and test plans for evaluation of new and existing systems.
  • Evaluate current equipment capability to comply with existing and future range customer requirements.
  • Review system readiness engineering changes and impacts to planning efforts to meet launch and operational requirements.
  • Review Operational Acceptance Recommendations (OAR) and Operational Acceptance Memoranda (OAM) for system readiness changes and impacts to planning efforts to meet launch and operational requirements.
  • Recommend changes to RGNext Program Managers to improve the quality or quantity of data by way of a more efficient use of range systems or facilities.
  • Coordinate reviews and processes related LISC Operating Instructions (LOI), System Operational documents.
  • Propose alternate methods of obtaining coverage when requirements are beyond the capability of the existing instrumentation.
  • Review range schedules in advance to ensure required instrumentation and customer requirements can be met for the respective Range Item sub-system.
  • Conduct pre-test briefings and post-test critiques.
  • Provide documentation and real-time work center coordination systems controller support to the Western Range during launch tests, simulations and non-test periods and ensure that all sites understand procedures during tests and simulations.
  • Review test support documentation and system requirements to ensure appropriate system status calls and that the correct response priority is provided to system personnel.
  • Report systems status in accordance with LOI Reporting Range Systems Status during launch operations and mission rehearsals.
  • Recommend and implement approved changes to operating procedures or methods to improve data quality and performance for future tests.
  • Prepare ADHOC reports and procedures.
  • Understand known or suspected systems failures and ensure all actions are documented professionally and timely in accordance with RGNext requirements.
  • Monitor performance and status of all systems during on-console activities including daily, pre-launch and launch activities. 
  • Perform planning/operational duties as a qualified Mission Control Specialist, Mission Controller and other planner/controller positions as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 Required Skills

  • Requires strong motivation, initiative, and the ability to work independently.
  • Requires the ability to logically and rapidly analyze operational system problems, develop acceptable alternate or contingency support plans and/or accurately direct control center personnel in real time corrective actions. 
  • Interpersonal skills to facilitate technical direction to personnel supporting daily and mission operation activities.
  • Must have good oral and written communication skills and demonstrate excellent personal relations and professional qualities. 

Required Experience

  • Associate degree in a related technical field or equivalent combination of education, training, experience, or related military experience
  • Five or more years of experience working with technical or instrumentation systems. Telemetry or mission systems preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook).  
  • Knowledge of Western Range launch operations preferred.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of Universal Documentation System and Air Force Space Manuals.
  • The flexibility to work occasional non-duty hours or on weekends to support specific project or mission requirements.
  • Must have an active U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) Secret Security Clearance, or higher, which includes U.S. citizenship.
  • Valid U.S. Driver’s License or state issued ID.

The pay for this role is $56.24 per hour; however, RGNext considers several factors when extending an offer for employment, including but not limited to, the role and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, education/training and preferred skills and knowledge.
