Position Summary:
The Manager, Payroll & Benefits will serve as a key support role for existing payroll and benefits functions with a defined path for growth. The position assists with ensuring accurate processing, compliance, and employee service. This role is ideal for a professional that has a well-rounded understanding of payroll and benefits functions including financial reporting and analysis. This position will grow into a future leadership role within the payroll department. The role requires a high level of confidentiality, passion for accuracy, and the ability to work proactively and collaboratively across departments.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Analysis

Prepare and analyze payroll budgets.

Collaborate with accounting for payroll and benefits related financial reporting.

Process benefit invoices and assist with cost allocations, audits, and reconciliation.
Leadership & Growth

Participate in strategic planning and process improvement efforts.

Lead projects or initiatives within payroll and benefits.

Mentor junior staff or interns as needed.

Demonstrate initiative and readiness to assume greater responsibility over time.
Payroll Support & Backup

Serve as the backup for processing weekly and biweekly payroll for multiple entities.

Audit payroll entries and timekeeping data for accuracy.

Support payroll compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.

Maintain payroll records and assist with reporting and reconciliation.

Respond to employee inquiries and escalate complex issues as needed.
Benefits Support & Backup

Assist in the administration of health, dental, vision, disability, life insurance, and retirement plans.

Support open enrollment processes, including system setup and employee communication.

Help maintain compliance with COBRA, HIPAA, FMLA, ERISA, and other regulations.

Coordinate with brokers and vendors to ensure service quality and issue resolution.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Human Resources, or related field.
- 5-8 years of experience in payroll and benefits administration. Accounting experience strongly preferred.
- Comprehensive understanding of payroll laws, regulations, tax compliance, unemployment laws, and compliance requirements for a multi-state employer.
- Strong knowledge of benefits administration.
- Prior leadership experience required.
- Payroll or HR certifications (e.g., CPP, SHRM-CP, PHR) are a plus.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
- Experience with HRIS and payroll systems required, preferably Paycom.
Work Environment:
Office environment with standard equipment and minimal noise.
