Description

This position works under the general direction of the Bariatric and Metabolic Services Director. Responsible for scheduling and coordinating patient appointments for office visits, consults, evaluations, and seminars. Performs a variety of duties related to registering new patients, facilitating all general clinic information to patients, coordinating referrals, and performs insurance verification and benefits eligibility prior to scheduled appointments, and documents appropriately in the electronic medical record. Works closely with other members of the Bariatric and Metabolic Clinic team to ensure the department runs at the highest level of efficiency possible.

Primary Duties

Admitting/Registration:

  1. Admits/registers patients in an accurately and timely manner.
  2. Explains policies, answers questions on patient check-in, and gathers all necessary information and signatures according to hospital policy and procedures.
  3. Greets patients, families, and visitors arriving at the registration desk in a friendly, courteous manner.
  4. Serves as liaison between the Bariatric and Metabolic clinic and other departments.
  5. Contacts patient’s medical insurance payer(s) prior to scheduled visit to determine insurance eligibility, coverage, and requirements. Documents accurately in patient’s chart.
  6. Collects co-pays and deductibles in accordance with facility policy.
  7. Ensures patient and family needs are met and addressed while they are in lobby areas.
  8. Remains focused on “Delighting our Customers”.

Scheduling:

  1. Schedules patients for office visits, evaluations, diagnostic testing, and seminars as directed.

  2. May, in an active manner, solicit information from patients, doctor’s office staff and insurance companies to complete the Admission Questionnaire form and insurance pre-certification information.

Other Clinic Duties

  1. Responds to and fulfills requests for patient information.
  2. Ensures patient waiting area remains clean and organized.
  3. Answers incoming calls from patients and referring providers in a courteous manner. Determines needed information and directs calls accordingly.
  4. Assists clinic medical providers and clinical staff with patient flow to ensure efficient and effective operations.
  5. Refers to the provider documentation in the electronic medical record regarding individual patient needs (i.e., follow-up appointments, testing, additional treatments) and coordinates with the patient to book follow-up appointments.
  6. Completes patient check-out process in the electronic medical record.
  7. Disposes of patient information in a proper manner to ensure confidentiality.
  8. Performs other duties as directed to provide the most efficient service to the hospital in a manner which supports the overall effectiveness of the department and the facility.

     

Qualifications


  • Education: High school diploma required; Associates degree or equivalent preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of one year related experience (i.e., patient admissions, registration, scheduling, medical insurance, or medical assistant) required. Experience in a healthcare environment strongly preferred with knowledge of medical office terminology. Bariatric clinic experience preferred. Computer software (Microsoft Word) and keyboard proficiency, ability to operate various types of office equipment such as copier, scanner, and fax machines, phone systems, etc. required. Must have excellent customer service skills.
