POSITION SUMMARY

 

William Penn Charter School seeks a choreographer for the High School musical Once On This Island.  Looking for a choreographer to work with a cast of approximately 30-40 upper school students. This person must be comfortable staging and choreographing for students with a variety of dance ability levels and have familiarity with musical theater as well as Caribbean dance styles. This person will collaborate with a director and music director to mount this production.

 

Essential Functions:

 

  • Create original, age-appropriate choreography that aligns with the director’s vision, musical score, and overall tone of the production.
  • Modify choreography to suit the individual skill level and abilities of the cast members, balancing encouragement with artistic growth.
  • Lead rehearsals for all dance and movement numbers.
  • Assist in the audition process by evaluating the dance potential of auditioning performers. 

 

Competencies:

 

  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Inspire and motivate the performers, helping them build confidence and develop their skills.
  • Provide constructive feedback during rehearsals.
  • Strong background in dance
  • Experience teaching and directing teenagers with varying skill levels.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.

 

Requirements: 

 

  • Dance Auditions are the week of November 17th, 2025 - with flexibility on which day that week. There may be one or two rehearsals in December, 2025, but most rehearsals will be 2 to 3 days a week from 3-5:00/5:30 pm during the months of  January & February, 2026. Possibly some weekends if necessary.
  • Tech week begins Feb. 18th, 2026 with 3 shows: Feb. 26, 27, 28, 2026.
