ASSISTANT DIRECTOR - INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNOLOGY
The job of Assistant Director – Instructional Technology is done for the purpose of supporting and advancing the integration of technology into classroom instruction across PreK–12 environments. This position works at the intersection of technology and teaching by overseeing professional development, supervising instructional technology personnel, coordinating with departments on technology resource implementation, and ensuring the effective use of digital tools to support learning outcomes. The Assistant Director serves as a liaison between the Technology Department and Academic Services and contributes to district-wide instructional strategy.
Reports to: Chief Information Officer
Essential Functions
- Collaborates with the Technology Department, Academic Services, school administrators, and curriculum teams for the purpose of aligning instructional technology with curriculum goals, initiatives, and various programmatic needs.
- Serves as a liaison between schools, departments, and the Technology Department to ensure consistent communication and a coordinated approach to instructional technology initiatives.
- Leads the design and implementation of professional development related to instructional technology, including the integration of digital tools into teaching and learning for PreK–12 educators.
- Participates as a member of the Academic Services Directors Team, contributing to district-wide instructional strategy and serving as a voice for instructional technology within the broader academic leadership team.
- Supervises the Instructional Coordinators for Technology and oversees their work in developing and delivering technology-related instructional strategies and supports as they assist teachers and students in the effective use of technology to enhance engagement, increase efficiency, and improve instructional effectiveness
- Oversees the procurement and implementation of instructional technology resources by collaborating with technology staff, procurement staff, and various departments, working to ensure successful deployment (e.g., setup, ongoing maintenance, training, and classroom usage).
- Collaborates with curriculum leaders and school-based staff to evaluate technology tools for instructional value, alignment to standards, and equity of access across schools.
- Develops and maintains district guidelines, frameworks, and workflows for effective technology integration, instructional innovation, and compliance with legal, ethical, and regulatory standards for the purpose of promoting responsible and safe use of technology.
- Facilitates the development of budgets and strategic plans related to instructional technology initiatives.
- Analyzes and interprets data on instructional technology usage, effectiveness, and outcomes to inform decision-making and continuous improvement.
- Prepares a variety of reference, presentation, policy and administrative materials (e.g. plans, reports, analyses, recommendations, procedures, etc.) for the purpose of conveying information, gaining feedback, and/or making recommendations regarding district instructional technology.
- Participates in a variety of meetings (e.g. workshops, district committees, community and public agencies, seminars, conferences, etc.) for the purpose of conveying and gathering information regarding a wide variety of subjects required to carry out their administrative responsibilities.
- Researches topics related to current and emerging technology (e.g. relevant policies, current practices, staffing requirements, financial resources, etc.) for the purpose of developing new programs/services, ensuring program compliance with established requirements, securing general information and/or responding to requests.
- Responds to issues involving staff, conflicts in policies and regulations, community concerns, parental requests that may result in some negative impact and/or liability if not appropriately addressed for the purpose of identifying the relevant issues and recommending or implementing a plan of action that will efficiently resolve the issue.

Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications
SKILLS
Required to perform multiple, highly complex, technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: operating standard office equipment, including utilizing pertinent software applications; planning and managing projects and programs; overseeing program financial activities; developing effective working relationships; preparing and maintaining accurate records; and administering personnel policies and procedures.
KNOWLEDGE
Required to perform algebra and/or geometry; review and interpret highly technical information, write technical materials, and/or speak persuasively to implement desired actions; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: IT service management; pertinent laws, codes, policies, and/or regulations; personnel processes; standard business practices; current generation and emerging programming languages; networking technologies and operating systems.

Responsibility
Responsibilities include: working independently under broad organizational guidelines to achieve unit objectives; managing a department; and monitoring budget expenditures. Utilization of resources from other work units is often required to perform the job's functions. There is some opportunity to impact the organization’s services.
Work Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 60% sitting, 20% walking, and 20% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.
Experience: Minimum 5 years of experience in K–12 education, including experience with instructional technology integration.
Education: Master’s degree in Education, Instructional Technology, Educational Leadership, or a related field required.
