You will set category strategies, negotiate commercial terms, and partner cross‑functionally with Engineering, Project Management, Logistics, and Manufacturing to enable program success. This position reports to the Supply Chain Manager.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the end‑to‑end purchasing cycle for assigned categories (e.g., fabrication & machining, electrical/controls, robotics, assemblies) from RFQ through PO placement, change management, and closeout.
  • Lead negotiations (pricing, payment terms, Incoterms, warranty/quality, delivery) to achieve best‑value outcomes and protect CONVERGIX with robust terms & conditions.
  • Drive cost performance: deliver annual cost‑savings/Purchase Price Variance targets, implement value‑engineering, and maintain a visible savings pipeline tied to projects.
  • Manage suppliers: implement scorecards (on time delivery, quality, responsiveness), escalate recovery plans, and execute corrective actions/RMAs for non‑conformance.
  • Execute buys from BOMs in alignment with corporate SCM standards and project schedules; proactively expedite critical path items when necessary.
  • Develop and execute long‑term category strategies to improve cost, quality, delivery, service, and supply assurance; monitor market trends to inform sourcing decisions.
  • Collaborate with Engineering on technical reviews, manufacturability, and alternates; build product/process knowledge via workshops, shop floor/plant visits, and benchmarking.
  • Optimize working capital: align order quantities, lead times, and delivery plans to inventory and cash objectives; support accurate promises to the project team.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and applicable trade requirements (e.g., import/export documentation, country‑of‑origin).
  • Share best practices with SCM teams across business units to standardize processes and tools.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential

  • Degree (or equivalent experience) in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, or related field.
  • 5+ years in strategic/operational procurement within automation, capital equipment, and/or machine tool environments; proven ownership of £8M+ annual spend.
  • On‑site capability at Arbroath, Scotland; ability to travel <15% to suppliers/sites.
  • Strong negotiation, analytical, and problem‑solving skills; able to read and comprehend contracts and commercial terms.
  • Proficiency with ERP/MRP purchasing, Excel (pivot tables/lookups), and Microsoft Office.
  • Cross‑functional communication skills with Engineering, PM, Manufacturing, Sales, and Logistics.
  • Working knowledge of total landed cost (price, freight, duties/tariffs), Incoterms, and supplier quality basics (non‑conformance, CAPA, RMA).
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings/BOMs and collaborate on manufacturability.

Desirable

  • CIPS/CPSM/CSCP or similar credentials; APICS/ISM involvement.
  • Experience sourcing machined/fabricated parts, controls/PLC, robotics, custom assemblies.
  • Exposure to basic export/import documentation and risk controls.
